But its an especially complicated form of pride... for me, VDB just shrugging off getting his nose bust and still putting himself about was proper Everton.

Benitez’s first three games were decent as well weren’t they?

I’ve said a thousand times, there’s no point judging managers over short periods of time with this squad. I said they’d play up for a new manager because they’ll all be eyeing the summer window now and wanting to stay. The acid test for me has always been 12 months. If Lampard can keep us on an upwards trajectory at the start of next season and get to the Jan transfer window in good shape then that is what everyone wants, no one more than me, we have to have managerial stability. We all thought the starts under Koeman Allardyce Silva Ancelotti and Benitez were good as well though.

Very positive signs though.

He has the nucleus of a good side in DCL, Richarlison, Gray, Gordon with Alli an option from the bench.

Hopefully we can find a way to get around the FFP rules without needing to cash in on one of our key players as if we can sign Da Beek permanently if he keeps it up, a Gana next to him and 1-2 defenders we hopefully can push on long term.

They were alright but I didn't see anything like what I saw from this match and Brentford.

Results/performance aside, he is an easy bloke to like isnt he?

Early days but looking like the right choice. I was encouraged that he has employed what appears to be a very strong back room team. He is intelligent and extremely driven individual. He was not a huge natural talent he got where he got through hard work. He knows what it takes to be successful and perhaps he has the strength of character to influence change behind the scenes if he is here for long enough
