2021/22 Frank Lampard

in retrospect, Lampard an astonishing choice. Not a manager who has shown any ability to cope with pressure. Managed to capitulate in the play-offs with a (it turns out illegally assembled in FFP terms) Derby squad that should have walked the league. Showed little at Chelsea. But because of his media mates from the "golden generation" has never been called out for a lack of any obvious managerial ability. Maybe because of his profile he can "attract talent" but there's not much point to that in a relegation dog-fight. Sounds brittle not brave in front of the cameras, who knows what he is like in the dressing room. Too late to change him, but looking back must have been so many better options, surely?
Mate very few options out there.

One game away from getting derby promoted and after Chelsea's transfer ban managed to get them in the top 4,not too shabby tbh.

We can’t afford to go down though, and we can’t afford to give him time to learn on the job. He was never experienced enough for the position we found ourselves in. I would have loved him next season, to build on something etc

But it was a terrible choice of management for relegation battle. All probably too late now though.
See I don’t understand this. The guy simply has not got the track record worthy of being Everton manager. And Pereria or whatever his name is doesn’t either.

What we needed was a safe pair of hands. They could then spend a couple of seasons trying to sort out the shambles of a squad.

That overstates what he achieved there with a squad including the likes of Mount, Tomori and Wilson. Just scraped sixth and was lucky to encounter a Leeds team that basically defeated itself in a bizarre ten minute mental implosion in the play-off semi finals. Regardless of the transfer ban, the stockpiled talent at Chelsea was ridiculous when he was there and he basically just marked time there - they didn't get worse but they didnt progress. The transfer ban did take the pressure off him a bit though in terms of scrutiny. Not sure as some have said what the options might have been, but it does feel we've got the wrong man for the circumstances at the moment. If the team aren't performing, you'd want a motivator as much as a tactician (or whatever it is that Lampard is supposed

There's no point turning on him. Its not Frank's fault the club is staring relegation down the barrel. That goes much further back than him.
Frank may or may not perform a miracle with this lot but it does not mean we can't offer some critique.

I cannot for the life of me work out why he didn't start with DVB-Alan-Doucs.
Defensively I though VB was very good (would like to see the stats on interception, tackles etc) and got into positions to cover that would have been beyond the likes of Gomes.
But DVB rarely got the chance to take it forward and link with the amount of covering he had to do.
If Alan had been there he would have been freer to make things tick.
Instead we had Doucs fumbling in skills and intent. Doucs is good at tracking and taking players out of the game (he'll be needed for Saint Maxim) and making late runs and he covers so much ground, but he is not the midfielder you want dictating play or being a vital link in attack.
In the absence of Alan and with DVB digging in defensively there was nothing really on.

Even if we get this midfield 3 and DVB is left to do more of the conducting - well there was this moment in the match where DVB was there to link and they were just too slow static and clueless to follow his direction.

Actually think El Ghazi might provide something because he'd know/see the type linking that DVB would be looking for
And for the same reason why Gordon might be a better option than Doucs in midfield.

Have doubts about Dele starting. Do we just get another midfielder who can't defend therefore back to the other two midfielders being rendered impotent.

If Frank doesn't get the balance between the defense and attack IN the midfield right, and the whol team playing to/off them, then the miracle won't happen.

The problem is who is a safe pair of hands? We knocked back Moyes before Ancelotti and after Benitez we were left with very little choice. We would have been looking at Pereira or the likes of Bilic, Ranieri or Hodgson. According to the bobble chap last night we refused to offer Martinez the sort of length of contract that would persuade him to leave Belgium. We wanted him for 6 months. He at least had experience of relegation battles, even if he did lose his last one at Wigan.

I don’t think Lampard is immune to criticism, but I’m okay with him staying on if we go down. At least until we’re 12th in the Championship in October and there are riots lol

Hodgson would have been ideal. Would probably leave us in a much better state than we are in at the moment.

That said, imagine two RS managers in a row? I don’t really associate Hodgson with Liverpool though, as he was there for such a spell and he was totally hung out to dry there.

Yeah I think he’s a good manager, although I do imagine the club probably didn’t want to appoint another ex-RS manager straight after Benitez. Also, I assume he lives in or around London so Watford probably suits him down to the ground.

What’s hopeless? The truth? How can anyone say it’s been a good start? Or a 6/10?

it hasn’t been a good start, its just been a continuation of what was served up before. it’s 95% the players fault. But lampard hadn’t managed to change anything. infact it’s gotten worse in terms of PPG, our league position, how close we are to the relegation spots etc
Maybe you didn't catch it the first time...I'll say it again:

HE'S BEEN 6 PL GAMES IN CHARGE.

All told, we've had 8 games under his managership:

3 wins
5 defeats

How on earth do you or anyone else expect him to walk in here and transform it?

This was always going to be about barely hanging onto our PL status - if possible. We all knew that when Benitez was sacked and a new manager was to come in. His remit was to keep Everton up. No matter how that comes about.

We have 12 more games left for him to get us the few points we'll require. Let's judge him then. Or maybe you want another sacking?

I also think the board didnt for once, gave lampard strict instructions: no fancy football, just dig in with 451. And here we buy you an extra cb and dm to do that. No, we will not but dele alli.

Thats what they shouldv said.

If Frank loses the next 2 or 3 games, i wouldnt be suprised if hed get sacked and obi wan allsrdici is flown in.

It was obvious to anyone with any football knowledge that he wasn't the right appointment
How exactly; oh let me guess you’re going to say “he failed to get derby up” and “he got sacked at Chelsea”

He was the right appointment, because we needed fresh ideas. The death ball employed by the kopite was killing us.

He’s going to make mistakes because he’s trying to patch things as he goes, the right blend. It’s why the change should have been made in October

I will reserve comment on Lampard. But it is clear that the bulk of the players we have are quite simply not good enough. Not surprising when the facts that we have signed a lot of chuck outs from other clubs, Gomes, Allan, Gbamin, Dele, Townsend, Rondon, Iwobi, El Ghazi, Doucoure, VDB, Myko, Patterson to name a few.
