He would have left regardless. If it wasn't Madrid, it would have been somewhere else.
No disrespect to Carlo at all, but he sought out the move to Madrid. It was his people that informed Madrid about the release clause when the job came up. From around this time last year, Carlo turned on the players and started throwing them under the bus in post match interviews. It was clear something was up. What went on behind the scenes we will never know, but he was clearly unhappy with the players in the months before he quit. I'd speculate that he had also been made aware of what the transfer kitty was going to be in summer and thought balls to that. And I don't blame him at all.

No one has ever defended the players. It's the implementation with them.

As the spitter said last night, in one season they've gone from a quasi-counter attack, zero possession based team...to one that wants to keep the ball and be on the front foot and they don't know what to do.

Carlo openly admitted, the more defensive we played the better the results. The more open, the worse they were.

Bentiez was never defensive with us and Lampard isn't either. Their egos suggested that they can get these players to play a certain way. They can't.

Personally thought Carlo unlocked that key for the squad on what to do with it. The idea for this season was to add quality.
Hang on a minute. Benitez wasn't defensive?! There's wrong and then there's that.

Some of you are so biased and so blind in your hatred that you do not realize how contradicting you sound in regards to the managers.

And as expected, there are already calls to change manager again.

The longer time goes on the more it seems clear to me that Ancelotti was actually doing a good job, contrary to the belief of many on here. Look at all of our most recent managers and he was the one that remained positive and relatively successful for the longest. I think he genuinely wanted to make a good go of it here. It started off well but once his influence on our scum players waned and they reverted to type he became disillusioned. Like you say he was probably fully aware of the skint summer that was ahead, having only signed one fringe player in January.

I miss him.
