It was zonal marking. One of the players (Richarlison from memory) moved away from his position and failed on his assignment. It's evident that there aren't many footballing brains amongst our players so perhaps best just going man to man but then that would involve players competing and winning their individual battles...

That is exactly the problem with zonal marking..
Palace placed their big players away from our Big defenders.
Kenny and Gordon are never going to compete against big Centre Backs.

You'd have hoped by now we'd have started to get a shape under Lampard but it seems to be getting worse.

We all know how weak the defence is and I'm sure Lampard does too but it hasn't been addressed. Given how bad we are at it, the entire team should be getting drilled every day. The terrifying thing is our attacking play is so poor I can rarely see us scoring more than 1 goal.

It's cause for concern, no doubt.

The answer to four bad defenders can't possibly be five bad defenders, especially when they're being 'protected' by two centre midfielders that are prone to going walkabouts.

None of them look like they know what they're supposed to be doing.

Scrape as many points as we can just to stay up, then be ruthless.
I think that’s the plan too, and it’s why we have a young, ballsy manager with an outstanding playing career teamed up with a DoF with a decent CV - finally Moshiri and Co must realise it takes time to reflate a sinking, stinking ship.

The Lampard supporters wont like you for saying this.
There were 6 players who started that game out of position today.
Coleman, Godfrey, Holgate, Kenny, Gordon & Richarlison.
But guess what, its all the players fault, nothing to do with Frank

By the same token, they know it's too late to shift a manager out and presumably want to remain PL players.
