2021/22 Frank Lampard

The only thing I'd lay at Lampard's door is the signing of Alli - that was one horrific waste of a squad place. I know he wasn't officially in the club during the window, but he surely seen the situation in the defence at CB and CM.

Alli is a spare arse part.

I doubt he was involved. Wasn't he appointed like a couple of hours before the deal was done?

If he had wanted Alli, then we'd have seen Alli play regularly I think

Over the years we have criticised our managers for being stubborn and sticking to plan A when its not working (Silva, Koeman, BFS, Benitez) Lampards has tried a few different formations and tried to get the best out of his charges by moving them around the chessboard. All with minimal success, but he has tried.
Personally I don't think he is the tactician - his backroom staff appear to be running the show and Frank's the mouthpiece. I'm fine with that, if as a team they are successful.
The problem we are seeing is that no amount of tinkering seems to get us winning. I think the managerial team realised that if we go a goal down we will lose, hence the hell for leather starts we are seeing, and if we had scored before Townsend went off Sunday it might have been a differnet outcome. I'd be ok if thats how we approach the WHU game... but, there has to be some plan for what we do if we don't score in the first 20 minutes. Some plan that will preserve the 0-0 for another 60 and then have us come out of our shell in the last 10 minutes.
I don't profess to have the answer but someone needs to find the answer at EFC in the next 2 weeks. The players are spineless. OK we all get that. They are not going to change.
We have to figure out a way to win with spineless.

I wanted Lampard from all the names in the media.

If we lost to Newcastle/got spanked, if I was Moshiri knowing Lampard was never first choice - I'd have switched it/gambled. Nothing personal, but 6 league defeats in 7 would have been too much - wrong timing for him/Everton's survival come first.

Thankfully, he got the result and hopefully he can kick on and never look back. I'd like to see Lampard take us into a new season with a summer behind him and build - but, and I'm like a stuck record - he has to

1. stop deflecting and finger pointing (pointing at excuse after excuse), and learn this;
I completely agree with forgetting about pressing too high up and prioritising and protecting the weak defence.

That aside, I look at Lampard since hes been here and can see that he's getting better results than Benitez got with them, and if he can keep that proportion of good results - 10 competitive games and we've won 4 of them and lost 6 (and the City result was harsh) - I see no reason why we cant survive with him in charge.....and that is his task.

I think he's receiving criticism based on style of management rather than substance.

Id really hope thats not the case tbh, if it is then its likely Clement that is deciding that stuff as the senior man and he is a guy who never really cut it as a manager.

he was using gordon and iwobi as wingbacks at the end of the palace game right? I can only assume he realises how poor we are going forward with the ball and creating attacks that he opted for wingers to play the wing back roles to see if it could work

would not suprise me if he tries that experiment against west ham in order to try and inject some attacking football in this team and goes with

------------------------Pickford---------------------------

-------------Keane------Holgate-----Godfrey--------------

Iwobi-----------------------------------------------Gordon

-----------------Doucoure-----De Beek---------------------

Gray-----------------------------------------------Richarlison

Maybe. I dont know for sure. But Lampard's deal was done and dusted before the transfer deadline and should have insisted the cash was switched to defensive cover.

Two of those players are the only ones to score in our last seven games i think, and both have then been dropped by Frank from the starting 11
My opinion stands fast.

Utter garbage this squad is. I'd I could spell more expletives with the rest of the squad I would.

Oh wait....

Cenk Tosun
Rondon
Andre Gomes
Patterson

Jonjoe
Alli
Rondon
Gomes

Couldnt fit Michael Keane in any of them but didn't want to leave him out.

Of course he can. By pointing the fingers I'm referring to him pointing fingers of blame generally. Often it's at problems before him.

By alsonot immediately following up that comment with "it's not the tactics" and claiming the tactics was the first 20 minutes.

It comes across as deflection, something he's been doing a lot of. Something I've commented on long before his latest comments;

And @BigDuncTributeBand demonstrated better than me;

And...

Constant deflection, finger pointing.

It was only the other week he was giving it this as well;

He's always arse covering and finger pointing and it's not a good look/sign.

Embrace the challenge. Take responsibility. Forget the CV.

You're in the minority questioning him to such an extent I think.

In my opinion, he can be criticised fairly for continuing to put underperforming players in the starting line up. But for any tactical structure to be successful you have to rely on certain, basic competencies being in place which just aren't there with these brain dead footballers. For example, following a runner into the box as the ball is about to be squared has nothing to do with tactics, stopping a player getting a shot away by throwing yourself in front of it has nothing to do with tactics and being unable to play a simple ten yard pass to a teammate has nothing to do with tactics. These things have everything to do with basic competencies that you can witness on Sunday league football pitches every week.

Let's not forget, it was a cup game.

I can understand why he might have had the mindset of just going for it.

Worth a try ;)

Tactics and line ups have hardly been able to stem the flood of defeats all season.
Need to find the best combination of players who will dig in, work their socks off and fight for each other.

Some might call it the best team!

You could have put him after Gomes, he plays like he has permanent cramp.
