2021/22 Frank Lampard

The Palace game was almost in the way of the really important business.
We ended up getting busted, but Frank has hopefully learned a little bit more about his players.
If we had won then great.
Palace were favourites and hot the job done. We were expected to lose by many.

We have bigger games coming up than a day out at Wembley.
If we only have two more wins in the tank for the rest of the season, I wouldn't want to use one up against Palace!

Frank is trying to polish a turd and he's having a go and we need to remain behind the selected teams on match day.

COYB.

He sets us up very well, we were cruising in the Palace game until the townsend injury (think Iwobi should've been the change to keep the shape) and we were very much in control at Spurs and Newcastle away. I don't think it's a question of tactics really, it's just any kind of hardship and this team crumbles and catastrophically so. I don't know how he changes that and I think it's why we are seeing such calamitous away performances, the players heads drop and they play like the game is over.

I just don't see how making a different sub for Townsend would have stopped the players making a hash at a corner, falling a goal down, and then giving up.

Individual errors are killing us because these players will not take responsibility to do their job properly.
It might stop that corner happening in the first place as it might have stopped Palace getting a foothold in the game, as Everton could have carried on pressing like they were, Gordon wouldn't have changed position etc

But yes it comes down to those errors but every bit of management matters in football. The Gray sub was just one of the things Lampard got wrong and he takes responsibility for that whereas the on-field mistakes are on the players.

Well yeah but as a manager a big part of it is reacting in-game to stuff going against you.

He worked well with young players at Derby and Chelsea, then struggled when they brought in overpaid prima Donna's. That's the situation here, so no surprise he's struggling to manage them. Let's hope we can avoid the drop and transition to a team that has young hungry players and get rid of the overpaid dross. As others have said it is working for Arsenal.
On the flip side, he lost the dressing room at chelsea.
I was disappointed but he way he distanced himself from what happened yesterday. Throwing the payers under the bus? Ok, maybe they deserve it in some ways, but this never works. The anger takes the flak in public and the players take the flak behind closed doors. Sadly he’s learned from the Mourino school of humiliating players. There’s a lot more to creating a team spirit than telling people they need to have ‘bollocks‘ and showing their passion be ‘getting stuck in’. It’s Mike Basset management.
You win together, you lose together.

Had a nose on one of the Derby County forums. Opinion seems split about him. Mostly over how he left and the long term legacy he bequeathed (or didn't).

They do seem positive about how he got them playing, very front foot delivering very good away performances / results. So I suspect that's his goal with us. Laudable, but he clearly got loanees in who were a cut above which made a difference. Maybe he needs to set up differently away to cut his cloth accordingly? Different league, players, circumstances etc.

If anyone's got time, worth a look.

Edit: also remarkably polite. How dull.

Nah tell the players what you think of them, Frank saying it in public is giving a message to the fans that he sees it too. That will be ringing in their ears for the next two weeks now, I hope it produces a positive in the next game.

Would you rather 3 centre mids of differing quality or 3 CB's of no quality?

Frank called it.

Myself, I watch Everton with my eyes closed.

I'm defo 4-3-3 with this squad. But sadly that still always includes the current centre backs and so we are goosed.

Defo the former.

But for Palace though we literally only had 2 CMs to choose from with no Allan or VdB.

I expect us to play 433 / 4231 for the rest of the season.
