I could see our LB slot being well covered by Nkounkou and Mykolenko for the future. Both are a huge downgrade from Digne, whose transfer a week before Benitez' sacking is a black mark against the management, or lack, of at our club. But Nkounkou at home in games we will be on the front foot and Mykolenko when we are away against the top 6 seems like reasonable coverage. They both might get a chance with a more progressive manager in charge.
Benitez was really bad, never gave young players much of a chance but also got rid of any senior pro he saw as a challenge to his authority. Left us with mediocrity on the pitch and no passion.

It's a legit criticism.

We could be straight for the trapdoor after hiring a tactically naive manager who will get housed in our critical upcoming fixtures.

I tend to think that we're good after Newcastle failed to meaningfully improve, and that we can get away with a youth-oriented manager for a rebuild, but I've been wrong before.
Yes, this could be a very important factor. They did get Guimaraes who has an excellent reputation, but must feel a little underwhelmed besides.

It could have been a different story facing them next week if they had made 2 or 3 more significant additions.

The game next week is critical obviously, for us and them. A draw would not be a disaster by any means but if we could get three points, in Lampards first league game, it would be a massive massive result for us and them.

TS and the athletic podcast both said he not up for the job
I listened to those podcasts and I thought that their criticism was a little flimsy. Most of it centered around the fact that one of them has a personal dislike for Lampard, and another saying that he hadn't achieved enough. The same person then went onto say that Slippy G is doing a fantastic job at Villa, and was a great appointment. If you ask me, guiding a middling Derby side to a Playoff final is much more of an achievement than winning the SPL with one of the only 2 teams that ever wins that league. You literally have a 50% chance of winning the league with either Rangers/Celtic, the championship is an extremely hard league to navigate. I will be judging Frank on his Everton performances and that's it.

I wonder if Lampards penchant for wingbacks will see a return for Nkounkou?
SaId in the summer transfer thread I think we are sorted on lb with our new guy and Nkounkou returning from loan, both imo will fit the system Lampard likes to play, think Patterson will fit it too, if we have anyone in the academy who also does it boxes off that position.
