We had Allardyce, he sleptwalked to a league position instead of trying to do something to exceed his reputation

Or did he do well to get any sort of bounce out of what was one of the worst squads in the prem that season and then tried to make them play the most basic style of football possible as it was the only thing they could manage (and even then they were pretty hopeless)

If we had, the fans base would have revolted upon the appointment, and then as soon as we were safe would have wanted them out for playing ‘non progressive’ football.

The fans felt so strongly about Pereira coming in that they daubed the walls of Goodison, imagine if it had been Allardyce!
Those sort of managers get you in a cycle you can never get out of. You play percentage anti football which has a very low ceiling and you haven't players capable or willing to play the football you need to kick on.

Its better to try to succeed and fail than settle for existence and plod along doing nothing for decades.

"We deserved a point at least on an afternoon when a lot of things went against us. We showed character, discipline and created chances which isn't easy against West Ham. If we carry on in that vein, things will go in our favour and we'll be OK."

Discipline - 3rd red card on the bounce.
Struggling to believe this is a real quote

In a way I think itr wasnt that bad, but for keane and esp making him captain. He has balls but no brains. Need to keep his instructions tight and easy. Also, DCL was atrocious. he made Iwobi look good. In fact, I liked iwobi at 10. The slip wasnt his fault perse, but Keane walking into spaces he shouldnt have.

Imo he really should try dele as focal point. Then figure out who can get next to godfrey. Mykolenko was also very good at LB.

The board were going to appoint Pereira before the fans intervened. Not saying that would have been the right choice either but it’s easy to say in hindsight that x or y was the right choice. Most fans wanted a young progressive manager. That’s who the board hired.

My view remains that we could have got Guardiola Fergie and Sacchi dream team in here and it still wouldn’t bring results as these players are completely useless.
Fergie would get the results all right. A few players would be splattered off the walls!

Completely agree but I just can’t buy all the ‘we should have got Allardyce’ shouts after the fact. This place would have melted down had we brought him in again.

Moshiri is on record saying he didn’t hire Moyes because the fans didn’t want him, same seems to have happened with Pereira. Despite the lessons learned from Martinez and Silva we still seemed to believe that a ‘progressive’ coach could have these players playing football.

That illusion died for me under Ancelotti. There was one of the best managers in the history of the game and the players were struggling to pass the ball at times, now at they’re capable of front foot football.

I hope we have enough to stay up because I think Lampard can work through this and get in players who play the way he wants to and it works out in the long run. These players aren’t the ones to do it though not by a long shot. They’re tactically and technically inept

At least we wouldn't get relegated!

Frank is the classic case of someone who got a big job due to who he is. So the board think "ex-Chelsea manager" is a good PR line and appoint a woefully underprepared coach.
Do you really think Sam keeps us up, he couldn’t keep West Brom up last season.

Most of the fans are behind him
and I still think the majority will be if we go down. These players and the board will get the abuse and rightly so if we go down.

The previous managers and DOFs need to be asked why they did not undertake the overhaul of the squad weve needed. They put it off for years and this is the result.
