2021/22 Frank Lampard

He’s been extremely unlucky with injuries, DvdB getting injured just as he started to look like he could be an important player for us. Godfrey injured in the warm up yesterday, Gray injured, Townsend, DCL having regular injuries and not getting back up to full fitness.

As most have said here, I’d like him to stay on as he does seem like he’s got a bit about him. His away set ups haven’t been great and his reluctance to make a sub until the last 10 min show inexperience, but I think he’ll be good for us if we keep him around. I’m just not sure that we will when we inevitably go down.

Before yesterday we were 12th in the form table over the previous 6 games. Were now 14th over the past 6.

This constant negativity is beyond me.

That's because we're staring relegation in the face. I like Lampard. He's bought into the club and you can tell he's kicking every single ball out there, but at the same time I don't think we can honestly say his appointment has had the impact we wanted it to.

A couple of things -

1. We got tactics mostly right yesterday, super tight at the back and broke at pace. However in hindsight, we weren't brave enough, we were so scared of getting found out at the back, we only played on the counter. Once the ball went out, it went straight back to Liverpool, which meant they had huge amounts of possession. We could have mixed it up, tried to keep possession, move up the pitch, there's always the option to kick the ball out or give a professional foul to make sure there's enough men behind the ball. So I think while we did alright - we also lost the game as a result of our own tactics. There was a stat for the first half yesterday that the ball was in play 28 mins of the half. If we have the ball 40% of the time, that'd be a of 16mins or 32 mins for a whole game. But we had the ball 18% of the time, meaning they had the ball around 45 mins. We'd also get the ball out of our own half more.

2. I believe the Chelsea game is the make or break game. Burnley is starting to win again, so they could possibly win 3 out of their last 5, why couldn't they do it?That would put them on 40 points. We'd need 11 points, so 4 wins in 6. If we need 4 wins, we have to beat Chelsea.

It's also potentially where we might have a bit of an advantage. Half our coaching staff are from there Frank, Ashley, Joe, they know the players there. I expect an excellent scouting process, and we should hopefully see players with better tactical awareness. If Frank can't win against his old club knowing their play book, its hard to see us winning 3 or 4 out of our last 5.

It wouldn't have been just the defence. The whole team barring one outfied player could have sat deep as they did against Liverpool today and seen the job through.

I think maybe Lampard is a decent manager, just not the one we should have hired.

I dont blame him overall. Of course not. If he'd been hired last summer and had a transfer window then and in January I think he'd have had us midtable or better.

But that;s what owners and chairmen are supposed to get right. It looks like Burnley and Leeds got their decisions spot on and we saw the idiot in charge of us cave to the demands of the mob again and flunk his big decision.
Yes I agree that Lampard was not the best choice for a relegation fight, I think he should have been given the job last summer, to avoid Benitez coming in and destroying the confidence of the players and causing a bitter rift amongst the fan base.

I know you don't agree, but, I would keep Lampard even if we go down. It's time for a total restructure now and I'd like to see Lampard and Thelwell given the chance to implement it. The alternative is the likes of Dyche or his ilk, who will, once again be trying to bring in aging mercenaries for a short term fix. We really have to get away from that mind set.

i think the fact that with 6 games to go, he hasn't been sacked, he is staying whether we get relegated or not.

Stay up or go down he stays.

It's a tough one really as we're going to have to massively reduce our wage bill and completely revamp the side which will be almost impossible as most of the players we have got nobody wants and are on huge wages.

I don't really know what the answer will be. Coming straight back up with be difficult if Rondon for example is our starting striker in the championship, doubt he'll score more than about 10.

Did we make a blunder not getting howe
Howe wouldn't have made much of a difference.

The players are playing for potentially fat contracts with the new oil money coming in. They are already safe and still playing hard, tells you what you need to know.

Every other mid table team are already on holiday.

Im not concerned at the moment.

Dodgy decisions, open goals, bad defending...everything has gone against us.

Im hoping things will now click and we win at least 3 of the next 6 which is doable.
Teams that go down usually have the same tales of misfortune. Yes, I'm hoping for a change of luck but I'm not expecting one.

Amazon must be cursing not making a documentary on this season. From player arrests to the most hated manager in history together with a poor playing squad, a disastrous balance sheet and a war costing us our sponsors. You couldn't make it up.
