2021/22 Frank Lampard

You dont have to do it for 90 minutes, just do what you have to do to get on terms or your nose in front and then lock it up...against West Ham and Burnley the team went on the offensive to try and gild the lily when we were half an hour away from getting good away results.

It's a shame about Lampard. It looks like he might not get the chance to learn from these errors and for us to benefit from him learning them. But his mindset has been way too open for us in our position.
Burnley was a massive missed opportunity but West Ham always seemed to be playing in a lower gear. Dunno if they had a European game around the corner that week, but they lacked intensity.

I'm not sure trying to shut up shop is the thing to do with our defence, Benitez tried it every game and we still leaked goals like a sieve.
It wouldn't have been just the defence. The whole team barring one outfied player could have sat deep as they did against Liverpool today and seen the job through.

I think maybe Lampard is a decent manager, just not the one we should have hired.

I dont blame him overall. Of course not. If he'd been hired last summer and had a transfer window then and in January I think he'd have had us midtable or better.

But that;s what owners and chairmen are supposed to get right. It looks like Burnley and Leeds got their decisions spot on and we saw the idiot in charge of us cave to the demands of the mob again and flunk his big decision.

Win your home games, draw away.

I think Lampard's biggest drawback has been his inability to recognise you cant be going to places like West Ham and Spurs etc and going toe to toe. Notwithstanding today, it's his approach to away games that have cost us.

He buckled to a mob who - for some reason - had it in their mind that they didn't want Pereira but an inexperienced maanger would get us out of danger.

Personally I had nothing against Lampard but at the time would have favoured Pereira.

Klopp and Lampard in the dugout today....

Really - what stood out on big vics cv that made you favour him over frank?

can you tell me why you wanted him?
It's not that I wanted him particulary but just preferred him over Lampard for experience and the fact he had a good reputation defensively in Portugal.

I think he'd have done us for what we required.

let's put it this way: with what we know now I doubt anyone would - if we were allowed the choice again - hire Lampard.

It's not that he's poor, it's just that he has no aptitude for just getting a team to be pragmatic.

Let's put it this way: if we survive this season, I'll be very happy to see him stay on. But we are looking less and less likely to see that now.

You’re bestie Benitez was famed for his pragmatic, defensive football - look where that got us.

As said above: his time at Porto saw him setting up well defensivley.

Two seasons there:

Goals Against = 19 in season 2011/12
Goals against = 13 in season 2012/13

Champions on both occasions.
