2021/22 Frank Lampard

Said it loads, but he come in too idealistic. He come in thinking "enjoy the ball" would do it. A high press+line away from home?!

He's twigged since. He's gone more pragmatic. A shame he saw that a little too late.

Bottom 3 players (Dom, Doucoure, Gordon) all fannied out of challenges, Kenny got skinned. Godfrey and Keane we're slow to close down allowed him to play a ball through them.

Dom had lost the ball if I remember right
Dom had the man on the sideline with no space then pulled out of a tackle and let him run by. Then Kenny and Gordon ran over to try and help and both got skinned by the one move. It was a complete comedy of errors. You would need 15 men to keep your shape with all that going on

I hope he stays if the worst happens, but we could look so different next season all around, one of the few mangers that i think actually cares about us

Just wondering what you think Lampard has got so wrong? I haven't seen much wrong tactically, I've seen a lot of individual mistakes and bad missed chances though.
I don't want to be too critical of Frank because, like you, I know he is working with a collection of charlatans on the playing staff (not to mention on the board). There were mitigating factors that must be taken into account - just as they should have been with his predecessor. That said, his "statement" signings of Delle Ali and Donny van de Beek were big punts that have simply not worked out. He had almost no time in the window - but part of the attraction of his appointment was in his ability to bring in desperately needed reinforcements on the basis of his name recognition. They have bombed.

The lack of game management at Burnley was also unforgivable. At worst, we should have drawn that game. Some of his selections (Kenny, etc.) have killed us. People will say he has had little time to address these things - and I have some sympathy for this viewpoint - but his job was a salvage operation and he needed to produce a bounce through some form of alchemy associated with his personality/reputation, etc., in the absence of time and, let's face it, demonstrable proven coaching ability.

I wish him well tomorrow. But I see no benefit in supporting Team Lampard when the club is plummeting to oblivion.

Those going on about Burnley.

He didn't know whether to stick or twist, and it shown.

We were awful/we didn't turn up. 2 penalties bailed us out and we still couldn't get a result.

Not sure why you’re acting like the only two options for a football manager are either go all out attack or allow endless crosses into the box.
Weird cos I've not written that anywhere? You're one who said he should have dropped to two banks of four? Not me.

We just had like 3 players beaten in the space of a phone box prior to that. Kenny DCl Gordon I think. Of course we were out of shape after 3 bottled challenges.

Dcl in particular could literally have leant on their full back on the side line and stopped the attack but instead did nothing. He bottled the challenge at source

The players should not have been in the positions they were in to begin with.

You’re acting like Lampard is incapable of coaching this group of players to do better. I think that’s worse than saying he has made mistakes and can rectify them.

I don’t want him sacked because I think we need to stick with a manager for a change, but this defending of clear tactical errors is daft.

2-1 up and we just needed to see it out for a win or draw...he let the team get forward for a 3rd.

I think that was the (lack of) decision that got us here tonight.

He has made some mistakes 100% but the goals at Burnley were some of the poorest individual mistakes I've seen all season. Find me a clip of a goal with a worse attempted clearance than Godfrey and id be surprised.

These players are to blame and should be mortified at how they have performed. A sacking lets them off the hook and that thought makes me pretty annoyed tbh.
