2021/22 Frank Lampard

By the time we had injured coming back the club was in crisis - and handing these jellyfish a crisis to handle was an impossible task for them.

The thing with the Benitez stuff for me (and getting back to Lampard as it's his thread) is that a lot of people are going to set another mnanager up for a fall here because they've sided with these players again in their haste to bury Benitez with the failures of the current season.

Those players - make NO mistake - will get Lampard under the microscope VERY soon.
A manager's job – first and foremost – is to get the best out of the players at his or her disposal. This isn't some question of moral fibre, or who was in the right and who was wrong. It's about what works.

Now, granted, the ability of players imposes a natural ceiling on what a manager can be reasonably expected to get out of a squad. Benitez had his squad at nowhere near that ceiling and was in fact performing far worse than any of the other managers we've seen flounder in similar circumstances.

But yes, to bring it back to Lampard: there will, of course, be trials and hiccups. But, while I was sceptical of Frank's appointment, I increasingly feel he has the ability to lead, persuade and instil confidence with this group of players. I may well be wrong – I'm operating on scant evidence – but this feels like a much better appointment on that score than any manager has for a long time.

At some point though Dave, it's a managers job to manage that situation?

And I mean we have signed 5 players this month. Are they automatically following the same pattern? If so, we should as a football club be asking why?
Common denominator is the staff they have with them 7 days a week.

Drain the swamp.

Ferguson, Ebbrell, Unsworth, Baines, Kelly etc should have been punted this time around.

They create a miasma of amateurism and cronyism that seeps into every pore.

The Benitez revolt was juvenile.

Those people in thje thick of it wont ever get my respect, because it was an indulgence for them to destablise things at the club so they could be proven right.

Is right Dave, if it wasn't for those revolting Benitez wouldn't have only won 1 in 14 games and had us playing absolutely dross footy.:hayee:

I hope so too.

But deep down we all know that the players at this club who have their ears bent by the clique burrowed deep in it at every level will eventually resort to default setting and throw in the towel and get another manager sacked.

I wish it weren't so, but it is.

You say that but..

Only two of those work alongside the first team and Lampard has brought in a completely brand new set of staff. All whom have more success in their little finger than the likes of Unsworth.

Lampard and his staff are in charge no doubt about it.

If anything, bringing in a sizeable backroom staff seems to pay off well.

Doesn;t matter. They are there at FF every day and will have contact with the players, and the players know that - whatever managerial regime comes or goes - the clique will always be there for them to deal with.

This is an internal organisational cultural problem that any *strategic review* worthy of the name would highlight and go and destroy.

There's no chance of this imho.
The back room staff in place now have a swagger, charisma, high standards and medals to back up their credentials.

We may finally have appointed some best in class individuals into position's within the football operation.

I neither know that, nor remotely believe it, Dave. But I don't think I'm going to change your mind on that score. I'm currently locked in my gaff with covid, letting a fancy bottle of Bordeaux breathe. I intend to guzzle the mother down with Match of the Day in five minutes time, cos Everton [Poor language removed] won 4-1!

Power to you, Dave. Godspeed and up the [Poor language removed] toffees!
