Go and watch the game again: the central defenders - especially Keane, seemed instructed to pass the ball asap to one of the midfielders who dropped in front of them in said cases.

Lamps has got them working much closer, whereas Benitez had them much farther apart. Then Keane came into much bigger problems. Now he was kept to a few very simple instructions and close support. It worked but any minute he was out of those, he got into problems. Again and again.

Ferguson, Ebbrell, Unsworth, Baines, Kelly etc should have been punted this time around.

The weakness i think will be against quick forwards when we play a high line with Keane and Coleman having to keep pace.

Godfrey is a big loss.

My prediction is we won’t miss Ben despite his pace and tenacity. This season he’s regressed. He’s a liability defending set pieces, he’s not particularly strong in the air, he’s not a threat in the opposition box, he loses concentration and positionally he’s not great.
Mina comes in and is a better option and if he gets injured we have Branthwaite who we are all excited about.
As for lack of pace without him, frank will have them playing deep and keeping the ball more to nullify any threat.

I think your seriously over estimating the likes of Ebbrell. I doubt any of our current crop have ever heard of him.

They will know all about Ashley and Frank though.

Really impressed with what Lampard and his team were able to draw out of the players with just a weeks training. We looked a totally different side on the pitch today. It's still very early in his tenure, but I am really looking forward to seeing an Everton team shaped by Frank's ideas and style of play.
