If he got us clear in the event that Lampard was still struggling Ild welcome it. I just dont think he;d cut it here with these players. It'd take him 18 months getting some discipline into the squad the way he likes it.

RM would probably do better. If he had a striker handed to him of any quality he'd get us playing - and Coady and Tarkowski would probably limit our losses at the back with the inevitable balls ups as the team tried to play out from our defensive third.

RM with a stiker would get us midtable without a shadow of a doubt.

Don’t forget Graeme Jones saying that there’s no point practicing set pieces because you only have to defend 3 in a game and if you have 100% possession you’ll never have to defend anyway.

People keep talking about the palace game as if everything was great before it. It wasn’t though. There’s no point continually harking back to that one game as evidence that everything is fine when the whole reason it gets mentioned so much is that it’s so clearly the exception to the rule.

Palace was very much the exception this season, in that it's probably the only game that I can see we overwhelmingly deserved to win. Don;t get me wrong, there have been a lot of tight games, that could have gone either way, but that was the only 1 sided match in our favour.

My own take, is that Palace got it tactically wrong and really played into our hands.

Indeed. I seem to recall some mocking Moyes for being a dour disciplinarian. Phenomenal!

You have to feel for Lampard. Trying to change a culture, repair the bitterness post-Benitez, and rebuild our utterly duff squad. Regardless of whether he's up to it or not, that's a tough gig.

But we have got rid of alot of players so why it's is not going away.

Our players don't look like top footballers. It's like watching a team playing with a fireball, they don't want to get on the ball. They are frightened

Oh we’re definitely crap. I always expected us to struggle this year, but the inability of the manager to do anything to change our fortunes is concerning at the moment. It shouldn’t be this difficult to either find a way to score goals or find a way to stop conceding them. Allowing the opposition to have infinite shots while simultaneously being unable to muster a half decent opening yourself is definitely a managerial issue. Even a non league side going to one of the big boys away in the cup is capable of getting men behind the ball, making it difficult for the opposition and causing problems on the counter or at set pieces. We don’t even seem to be able to do that at the moment.

Despite all this I still wouldn’t sack him yet, but we’re way past pretending he’s doing a good job now. He most certainly isn’t, we just have to hope that he starts soon.

He said something yesterday that really worried me. Basically that we were favourites for relegation at the start of the season. He was almost talking about us as if we were just promoted and hadn't spent any cash.

Like don't get me wrong, this is a poor team, but I found that very surprising, too far and a bit indicative of how he sees this team. As it seems to be how he is setting us up. Like we are a Norwich and if we can grind out 0-0's that's a great achievement.

We weren't favourites for the drop at the start of the season, I think we were like 5th favourite to go down with the bookies. I do completely accept we have lost Richarlison, but we have added to CB's with great PL experience, a midfielder who also has lots of PL experience and another midfielder who has a lot of talent. So there is some upside to what we have done.
I just worry that's the message he's giving to the players, that we are just looking to survive and it kind of shows. It's one thing to say we are primarily looking to survive, but to say we were favourites for the drop, just felt too far to me. I don't think Benitez would have got away with saying it.
