I don't think we were ever replacing Richarlison but we didn't mitigate his loss.

I said last season that I'd rather lose him on a free than sell for £50m if he didn't renew his contract because he's the difference in us staying up or going down.

I know we had to sell to be balance the books though but if we didn't, I'd have let him run down his contract he was that important.

If we never had him last season we'd have gone down.

I will not be surprised that the club have literally done nothing during the WC break. If we are doing our job, three good attacking players should be signed on 1st of January.

We didn't have any defenders who could defend in the summer either.

Restrictions were massive. Not that I am excusing the club.

We have replaced Richarlison, Digne, Rodgriguez with Mykelnko McNeil, and Gray who have 40 career goals between them

Goals and creativity was needed faaaaaaar more than defenders

We had Digne and Richarlison starting last season.

Their loss, is bigger than the improvement of Coady/Tarkowski on Keane and Mina, or Keane an Holgate - IMO.

Richarlison scored or contributed a third of our goals.

We tried to mitigate his loss with McNeil and 0 goal and 1 assist in his last full season. And Neal Maupay.

Maupay is a decent little player off a target man but never, ever a number 9.

 

We also lost Sigurdsson, who, though the source of much ire, occasionally materialised with a goal or two. And Jamez. There went the creativity.

The biggest loss over the last two years is the Icelandic one.

I used to say without him (goals/assists) we'd be in a relegation scrap. Which was fact when you took them out (albeit disengenious given it didn't factor in a replacement).

Admittedly it was tongue in cheek to those who really disliked him on here but yeah, he would routinely top our chances created, followed by Digne, Walcott, Rodriguez etc. We don't half need some creativity now.

I support Lampard and hope he gets time to spend some cash on strikers. I dont think we're a rabble, just a team that needs a cutting edge to it.

But no manager is bigger than our continued top flight status. We'll get beat against City and then we have to see if the board are prepared to back him or sack him.

They get one chance at this in January. Waste it like we did last January and we are relegated. No new manager will stop that happening.

You know, if you have an offensive outlet teams tend to sit a bit deeper. We have no threat whatsoever, literally nothing.

He regularly contributed more than ten goals and assists per season. Huge loss.
