Not all fans tbh. The getting rid of benitez factor had something to do with it.
I was 50/50. I was more give a younger manager a chance. But at least provide him with something up front to manage. We're still the worst in the league in that dept.
The biggest mistake the club made with Benitez, after hiring him in the first place of course, was leaving it far too late to sack him, and seeing us end up with a shortlist of Lampard, Pereira and Big Dunc.

Eddie Howe was available in the same summer we appointed Benitez, our glorious owner in his infinite wisdom decided the fat kopite who was finished 15 years ago was the better option because he’d heard of him. That’s a direct consequence of not having people in positions of power at the football club that know what they’re doing.

The thing is people say he's underperforming, but he really isn't. This squad is absolutely AWFUL.

However, we clearly need a manager who is capable of overperforming and getting every single ounce of the players. Right now unfortunately it looks like Lampard can't do that, and it's a massive shame because he's been the one good thing about this club in the last year - not that I ever thought he was a particularly good manager, but he truly has bought into the club, understands the issues, and truly has tried his very best. Should be prerequisites but that's not always been the case at Everton, has it.

But regardless, Everton are down if they don't make significant signings in this window. One, at the very least, should have been through the door already. It's pathetic. And none of that is on Lampard.

Tbf you can also imagine the general disdain if we'd have hired Howe. Let's face it, when Newcastle hired him nobody - especially not Evertonians - thought he'd do what he'd do with them.

Brands wanted Potter, we know that, but in all likelihood, I imagine Potter would never have said yes to us. But there were others - Galtier the big one. I believe both Brands and Kenwright had their doubts over him, which to me is mental considering he is simply a very good coach who has always worked well as a coach under a DoF.

They (he) picked the worst possible manager for the situation and we have paid the price.

Benitez isn't to blame for our struggles this season of course. He's not picking the team or deciding to go away from what worked relatively well in one game to play some insane form of 4-3-3 which will never work. But it's just a joke of a club and we deserve what we get.

The city game was the blueprint. Changing for Brighton was suicide. They were always going to swarm us if we were open. They are that kind of technical team. And so it proved to be. If an amateur like me can see that but a “professional” like Lampard can’t then we are done for

The backline where literally camped on the half way line from the 1st minute. Just waiting to be picked off.

Madness.

Thing is the press worked though. We won the ball back 7 times in their third. They didn't win it back at all in ours.

We've not got the ability to take advantage of it and then as soon as that second goal went in it was just a complete collapse.

The biggest issue Everton have is in the build up. Lampard's system/shape does not work when you have the midfield running away from each other, not when you have players with such limited technical ability as our lot.

Possession-based footy isn't the problem, it's how we try and implement it.

Would’ve been absolutely nothing on Rafael Benitez. Even that fat mess got a bit of a stay of execution early on. Anyway it’s not up to the fans to decide who the manager should be, the club should be the grown ups in the room with an actual plan in place. Newcastle appointed Howe when all of their fans were screaming for Pochettino, fans don’t have a clue and the owners made the correct decision.

Winning the ball back and scoring are different things. They wanted us to come at them and then they broke many times down the flanks.

Still believe this team is better than where we are. I was all for Lampard being young and ambitious but tactically I really don't think he cuts the mustard. Too much tinkering for me. Looks like he hasn't got a game plan and is over estimating the abilities of quite a few of our players. In our situation I would be happy with 5 at the back to stay solid and work on a plan of counter attacking. Our players do not seem to know what to do
