Be interesting to see how he lines them up next week formation wise.

As bad as we are when we play 4-3-3, with the players he has available does he have any other option?

If he does, I’d much prefer to see Godfrey at left back than Mykolenko.

Doucoure in midfield with Gana and Onana and Gordon and Gray either side of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Alternatively he goes 5-3-2, but then maybe try Vinagre instead of Myko at LWB. Gray playing off Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top.

Thoughts?
If fit have Mina at CB and Godfrey at LWB. Pace to burn and gotta offer more going fwd than Miko.

I agree they've made a mess of recruitment. I've disagreed from the outset with every managerial appointment except Silva. I didn't think any of them were the right fit for the club and in every case I thought better managers were available at the time.

With hindsight, the appointment of Walsh and Koeman together, and the subsequent massive overspending on midfielders was the big mistake that we've never really recovered from. Give the board a break - they appointed - in their view - the best people available. Almost everyone on here approved of Walsh when he was appointed and a majority were pleased with Koeman (I know there was loads of moaning afterwards - that's different). It didn't work, and everything since then has been either firefighting or an overreaction to previous mistakes.

I'm incredibly wary of all this blame the board. It's too easy and fans of all clubs do it. Spurs fans have been calling for Levy's head ffs. They've built one of the best stadiums in the world, got one of the top managers, a great squad. What more can he do without bankrupting the club?

In their defence, we're building an amazing stadium we've needed for decades. That's a huge achievement for a club with our finances.

Fair enough. I wasn't aware of that comment. It still surprises me that if these things are being coached why we don't see him giving these instructions during the match. Like why doesn't he shout at the players during the match not to punt it high into Maupay when they keep doing it? Why does he make like for like substitutions (no earlier than 70 minutes) even though we can all see after 15 that the game plan isn't working? Anyone who's working closely with players on their individual roles should be doing that. Why is it that players have regressed rather than progressed in the last year? How come the internationals tend to play better for their country than for us? Why do players who looked good for their previous club look clueless here?

Take Maupay, who gets a lot of flack on here for being the epitome of a useless transfer. Why did we buy someone who doesn't score goals? Except he does, or did. Over the four seasons before he came here, he averaged a goal every 2.4 x 90mins he played. That is not shabby, and 3 of those seasons were in the Prem. He's played almost 900 mins for us and scored once. We didn't buy a dud - we're just not getting near the average, let alone getting the most from the player.
It's an open ended question with no answer that one because how often does a striker come here and not score goals but does elsewhere or internationally? The blame cannot be on the manager because we change them regularly and we can't blame the culture anymore because we have had wholesale changes to the squad over the past 2 seasons with different philosophies including a winning one with ancelotti.

When we had Lukaku he could make a goal out of nothing and quite often the rest of the team didn't always need to create for him, although it did help. The only other time we have had a regular scorer was when we signed a playmaker in James Rodriguez who created every game for lewen and as a result he scored goals. So the lack of creativity seems to be then the glaring answer to that question because for all the money spent under moshiri we have never had a player other than James Rodriguez who could create from the middle , much like arteta did under Moyes.

He doesn't look like he's got to grips with that squad at all and they're signing more and more players.

I'd be surprised if they afford him a lot of time.
It's Chelsea. They have standards.

Mind you, their standards this century have always been burnished by unlimited funds. They could afford those then. Now? Not so sure...

Yeah that's a fair analysis. Those players are like gold dust though. And - another conundrum - before he came to us, Siggy had the most assists in the league over the previous free seasons. With us? Not so much.

I don't think we have tried every kind of manager though. Which of them had previously taken a mid-low table team and got them into the upper reaches of their league and/or qualified for Europe for more than one season. That's what Moyes did for us. Silva had done it with Estoril. He's the only one. In my view, he's the one we should have shown more patience with. You could say Sam does well with what he's given, but at huge cost and it's not sustainable because you're not going to attract better players under him. There are coached round Europe who are doing that. They are the ones we should be looking at, not Wayne, not Dyche. De Zerbi did it with Sassuolo; Galtier did it with Lille; Gasperini is still doing it with Atalanta; Favre did it with Hertha, Monchengladbach and Nice; Garcia did it with Lille, Roma and Lyon; Thomas Frank is currently doing it with Brentford.

I'd love to see Favre or Gasperini here, but if not, I'd suggest Juric or Glasner. Someone tactically astute and a motivator. Not an old boy. Not a big name. A good fit.

Superrrrrrrrr, Super Frank!

Isn't it fascinating how a song once celebrated is now considered sacrilege?

The only thing that changed was the interval of time and the events that took place between the past and the present.

This weeds' boss...
