2022/23 Frank Lampard

The difference is that Arteta stuck to a formation, Frank came in and flipped flopped between 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 and 5-2-3. This season he has picked the one with the worst return and ran with it, we even seen the difference the system makes by going 4-2-3-1 v Villa.

Another example was Howe at Newcastle who have a similar ability level as our squad, Howe cam in with them 10 points behind us and by the end of the season they finished 10 points above us, in 27 games they managed 20 more points than us just by sticking to a settled formation and team selection.

Leeds have stuck to this 4-2-3-1, how is that turning out for them?

Obviously time will tell but if we continue with the 5-2-3 we wont get anywhere, currentlu watching the Leeds v Chelsea game and they have the same issues we do and they have world class players. So that even further shows my point the system/formation is the issue.
He plays 343/523 because any time he tries to play 433 we get absolutely walked through

the issue is the quality of the players, not the system.

If we played 433, we'd still have the same crap forwards up front.

Spot on this.

Last game was 4-0 v Minnesota. The answer is not to sacrifice our relative defensive stability. We are a poor team. Need to keep being hard to beat, and hopefully incrementally add goals with new signings and returning players.

I genuinely think had Brands had full control we would back in Europe by now, Moshiri and Joorabchian bringing in their own players and managers.

Brands was successful before Everton and look at the PSV side now, he is successful after.
Ridiculous shout.
Brands signed an extension to his existing working conditions. If he wasn’t able to do the job as you say then he shouldn’t of signed the contract extension should he?
He signed over hyped players on stupid contracts. He’s one of the reasons we are on the crap situation we are in

All 3 games. We have had more than enough chances to win them all. One missing piece or 2 pieces I should say is a striker and a winger to replace Richie. I feel confident if we get them 2 replacements in we will be okay. Do I feel confident this club will get the right replacements is a other matter. I have full confidence in frank and Kevin to get the right players in. I just feel bill and other members of the board like to get involved. That’s 100% the reason we are in this mess.

With the play so far and the results to boot.

Looking at Brentford and Leeds away, then into Arsenal and Liverpool.

I really don’t see how we get more than two points based on current form. Any additions we make will be cast offs from other squads, at this point in the window - so I can’t see them setting the world alight.

I think Frank goes by the start of November. I really don’t want him to - and the transfer business to date isn’t entirely his fault. But I think his position will become untenable once we’re 6 games in with 1-2 points gained.

Who would you get in and what would be your thinking behind your choice?

Genuine question BTW.

Lampard gets the season for me but if there isn't signs of major improvement come the seasons end then 18 months as gaffer is enough of a sample size to make a judgement in which I would be moving him on and letting Thelwell pick the next manager to align with his philosophy.

Only way it'll work long term.

Really tough conundrum isn’t it. Anyone we’d want would have that “do I want to leave a better club for Everton’s turmoil” question.

Potter or Howe would be first on the list. But both just wouldn’t risk what they’ve built to come to us. Rooney? I don’t think it’d end any differently to other recent managers.

Bielsa? He’s 67 - I just think we’d need someone with hunger. Poch would be a potential but he wouldn’t come / it’s too big of a risk.

So no mate, I have no idea ?

I hope he does, I might be being too dramatic there. If he manages to keep middle of the bottom half and we build from there then brilliant. You look at the likes of Leeds beating Chelsea, Newcastle taking it to City and Fulham looking good (only as long as mitro stays healthy I suppose).

A worrying picture that’ll start building the usual “sack him” furore if we’re at the end of September and we’re languishing in the relegation zone.

Well, of course, we dont want that decision day to arrive. However, we'd have to get in a man who has to juggle with these resources.

He simply has to improve mate - he's been backed in the window and yes he needs 1-2 attacking players but when they come he has no excuses to not push us on now Keane, Coleman, Gomes et al are no longer getting into the team regularly.

Anything less than 12th come the seasons end I would be saying my farewells if I was Moshers / Thelwell.

He's not a defensive coach. Get Big Sam back if that's what you want. We'd have wins on the board if he was backed with a striker before the season.
He's got a host of big name defensive coaches with him and purchased a number of defenders. Too much to ask for one clean sheet?
