2022/23 Frank Lampard

His demeanor has clearly shifted over the last few weeks. Personally I reckon he's feeling the pressure of this window yeno. I also think he can sense the general malaise on social media.
Don't think it's 'the pressure of the window', think it's dawning on him he's been sold a pup.

We didn't play 433 v Newcastle. Gordon played off Richarlison in like a 4411.

But regardless, I do want us to go down the 433 route, but you've conveniently ignored the following results

Crystal Palace 4-0 Everton
Southampton 2-0 Everton
Spurs 5-0 Everton

We got battered in a few games as well, especially when we pressed too high. I think once we get more players in - if we do - then we'll see a shift to 433 but for now he wants the structure that 343 brings, and if we had a decent forward line we'd look a lot better regardless of what system we're playing.

OK

4-0 v Palace in the cup was 5-2-3, so that wasnt 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1

Games I consider poor for 5-2-3 under Frank lampard....
Newcastle (a) L 3-1
Wolves (h) L 1-0
Crystal Palace (a) FAC L 4-0
Brentford (h) L3-2
Crystal Palace (h) 1st half L2-0
Arsenal (a) L 5-1
Chelsea (h) L 1-0
Aston Villa (a) L 2-1
Notts Forest (h) D 1-1

Not only did 4-3-3 average a Points Per Game ratio of 1.24 BUT we also had the following games where I thought we were unlucky with the 4-3-3
West Ham (a) L 2-1
Liverpool (a) L 2-0
Man City (h) L 1-0

The stats are there, you cant argue them....

Sorry yes, Palace was 523/541.

We still look very vulnerable when pushing high in a back 4 with this current defence/midfield.

Get players in and I'm all for switching

It gets twice as many points, scores more and concedes less, so I`m all in for 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1...

Conversely, we were wiping the floor with Brentford in a 433 before the ref killed us. And I think we turned the Palace game around with a 433?

The Palace game was much like the Villa games this season, Looked hopeless in the 5 at the back then went 4-3-3 to save it which we could have done at Villa if he gave it more time....

Playing a 2 man CM we miss the midfield runners which we dont get, we are just reliant on our wingers and wingbacks, all out wide. The best example of CM players arriving late is Lampard himself and our own legend Cahill...

And how many of those games were played with Patterson at RB? We've signed Coady and Tarkowski who would make the slowest back 2 going so we'd have to play deep which means our FBs are pinned back, unless we get Gueye in, which we are trying to do, to cover that ground.

So when we get more players in, I think we'll see it used more regularly.

We lost to Burnley, West Ham etc playing the 433 too. We aren't particularly good at any system.

This season, we've played it for one bit of a league game and it was against Villa. We conceded 1 and scored 1. It isn't a sure fire solution and we need better/different players to play it. Hopefully when they come in, we will play it.

We win twice as many points in a 4-3-3

Score More

Concede Less

How could it be any clearer? Really?

You talk about pace in the back 4 with Tarkowski and Coady yet we played it and won with Keane and Holgate when they were both devoid of any confidence after Benny.

So we have the slowest back 3 going now, you saying Coady and Tarkowski are a waste of money? I am going to pre-empt you saying Coady and Patterson can`t play in a back 4, I know that is coming. To counter that I`d say Tarkowski and Mykolenko can`t play in a back 5, both never have and Rangers only played a back 4 under Gerrard so Patterson only played WB for Scotland.

EDIT: Burnley away was mistakes, should have won, West Ham away was mistakes and should have got something.

and in those games we sat back deep, which is fine, but we have zero up top mate as it stands. So it'd be sitting on the edge of our own box pumping balls to who, exactly?

All I'm saying is when we have players in we'll be able to play it more easily. It looks like we have Onana and Iwobi as our current midfield options now because Davies is injured so we can't even play 3 anyway.

I do think Patterson can play in a 4. I don't think Coady-Tark would be a balanced partnership but if they deep sound, I just then think without a screening midfielder - which Everton currently DO NOT HAVE - then we can't do it.

If we get Gueye in and manage to keep three midfielders fit then I hope we play it. Wow, this is tiring.

A lot of us will take avoiding the drop and an improvement from last season in the way we play. Not a good season by any stretch, but one we can live with and hopefully build on.
You have to ask yourself in all honesty though, what three teams in the league look worse than this Everton team? (that of course includes ability of the manager)

Never really know because we never play 4 at the back. There are not 3 worse teams than a 5 at the back Everton.

Think he was spot on with his post match comments. Giving people minutes and acknowledging teams like fleetwood will raise their game beyond what they can normally play at. Sounds determined to impose his philosophy on the team and said he thinks work to be done. Still a win without going to penalties with the objectives hit regarding minutes for players can't hurt the confidence. Also very classy to protect Gordon by not going into it. We go on. UTFT.
