2022/23 Frank Lampard

We got done on transitions against a team who are only dangerous on transitions because we were casual and careless in possession.

Basic individual errors that cant happen at this level. Nothing tactical, just bad football and bad decisions. We beat ourselves.
If the entire team is loose with the ball the entire match that's tactical

Lots of ways of analysing the game but it all comes down to that we are lacking in quality still. We have a solid team who can steal matches but not a high quality football team. Therefore losing games is inevitable as Man utd have better players than we do.

The aim this season is to just stay up as far as I see it. If we won today I would have been surprised as it did seem a stretch too far.

I need to watch the full game because I've only seen highlights, but the goals come from poor decisions in possession. I see it as basic individual errors against a team that relies on the transition. I think we shot ourselves in both feet.
To me we were sloppy with the ball all match. Yes the goals came from those moments but they weren't isolated moments.

I do support him, but I wont back him if he deviates from the script that got us unbeaten for 6 games or so.

If Lampard wants to impress people in the game that he's a manager to take note of then he has to acknowledge the players' limitations and play within them.

That was atrocious tonight and I lay the bulk of the blame at his door.

That’s not support, you’ve basically said I’ll only support him if he plays the way I Dave with middling football knowledge wants us to play.

You’ve slipped up a bit there in your story, probably want to pull back a bit on it so you can go big if we lose the next couple games. Very untidy groundwork you are laying here.

I think it depends how loose you want to be with the term ‘individual errors’. It’s one of those things that always gets repeated but doesn’t really make any sense because when taken in isolation every mistake is an individual error. To me if you dominate a game and then someone under hits a back pass it’s an individual error, if you can’t string 2 passes together all game it’s not. Tonight was the latter, we have to move on and improve on it, but pretending we lost due to one or two lapses in concentration is daft in my eyes, we were comfortably outplayed for a large portion of the game.

I’d say a middle ground to both your points would be two or three of the players in particular were very off it in their control and passing and given we don’t have an abundance of footballers who can receive and use the ball well, the whole team will likely struggle if our main outlets to get up the field are collectively having a bad day.

Yes. I have the same thought as well.

We were not good today, hands down but this team is always a team in transition and everyone knows we still need better striker/forward options.

Players could not string 2 passes together after we conceded the 1st goal. It was strange but I think Gana's mistake got to the team mentally.

Thats all fair. But the goals come directly from silly mistakes we made.

We have been good at avoiding them recently but tonight was more reminiscent of last season.

You can’t just turn it off after you score. Frank needs to instill that in them for future games. Defending the lead does not mean letting the other team have their way. You have to challenge them in effort.

I would say that the goal was against the run of play. Onana pickpocket -> Gray being unusually selfless and finding a great pass -> nasty long-range bomb from Iwobi. The latter two don't happen in most fixtures.

We were caught out as not quite the finished article, but there are worse losses at Goodison than United on a Dr. Jekyll day.

Why though? Is the manager not capable of getting two points plus from those two games? I see no reason why we cannot get two to four points from those matches. No reason at all.

I'm fine with it. I just know there'll be folks who'll want Lamps out if we don't as if they've never learnt from the past few years.

We're building.

My biggest issue with this new team is conceding possession to almost every team.
We have enough good footballers in the midfield to be able to retain possession better (although yesterday you wouldn't think so)

Not sure what happened last night but it looked like almost every player didn't want the ball.
Opportunity missed that against a bang average Utd team especially after taking the lead.

The very worrying thing to me is that it looks like we are going to be stuck on 10 points after 11 games.

Still think we have too much to get sucked into a relegation battle though
