This ‘slow build’ attitude is pure BS, and it won’t get us anywhere. Football really doesn’t work like that. Our brand new improved defence will all need replacing by the time we sort the attack out if we undertake that complete and utter loser attitude.

Newcastle turned their fortunes around in a matter of weeks. This isn’t something that is unheard of in football, it happens all the time, clubs going from crap to good or vice versa in the blink of an eye.

The league is full of crap! If we can only manage a 15th placed finish, then we are still well and truly in the crap bracket, I’m afraid.

your chatting poo lad, newcastle hasn’t had to shift all kinds like we have or live within ffp

I’m pretty sure FFP is still applicable to Newcastle, and they haven’t had the benefit of pulling off the world’s greatest accounting blag to get away with massively exceeding FFP limitations.

I still consider Newcastle to be pretty crap tbh, they’re just one of many examples that disprove this ‘slow build’ nonsense, as if football is comparable to starting off and progressing on the housing ladder. Football is nothing like that.

75% of the league is average at best and not a million miles away from the Championship with regards it’s unpredictability. That’s why we have the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford competing in the Premier League, who according to some, should some how have greater expectations than Everton.

"excellent achievement after what happened last season"

You purposely cut his sentence in half for some reason :)

But last season isn't indicative of the past 6 seasons where we have finished in around the top half. Same way finishing 4th this season by some miracle shouldn't be the bench mark of what constitutes a good season next year as 4th again would be very unlikely.

Realistically this squad is around 8th-12th in overall quality all things considered as not every side around us have a plethora of goalscorers and even those who do may not have a GK/defence/midfield as solid as ours.

Add 1-2 goalscorers to what we have and you can then look at the european places realistically.

So let me get this right, we have an entirely brand new squad so we shouldn’t be finishing where we finished last season, but we should be finishing where we were 5 years ago even though we have a completely different squad to that too??

Lots of progress under Farhad.

I`m sat here watching Villa v Chelsea, Villa absolutely playing Chelsea off the park with a midfield of Luiz, McGinn and Ramsey.... It turns out we went to Spurs yesterday with a back 5 which we`ve proved many, many, many, many times it doesnt work yet we roll it out when Frank gets scared.

You saying we should've got Gerrard instead lad?

I see what you mean, im watching too, but Chelsea are winning, and most likely will go on to win, and Villa only have 9 points, they need to do a lot more

Why would we be comparing this season to say 5 seasons ago though? Different players, differeny manager, different DoF, different mood at the club. We compare to our most recent season, as everyone should.

We started with a back 4 yesterday then switched as we were getting breaks on the counter

I agree with your first two sentences, and would add that all those differences also apply to the other 19 different teams in the league, who are all given different fixture lists every different season. Given such massive differentiation, I can’t see why the previous season would be a great predictor of anything.

Probably because despite all other clubs having their own changes, we as fans still know our own players, our own form, our own expectations. Last season was horrendous, toxic and almost took us down. This season, if we stick together as a club and survive, even if it's 15th, then that is progress and proof we've stopped the rot. Season after, we go again and build on that.

Definitely not but we need to change mentality....

And losing 1 nil and a crossbar width away from 2 nil
Chelsea, 4 shots 2 on target.

Villa, 11 shots 6 on target. Kepa made an absolute wonder save.....

Our mentality is one where we look scared because we are playing one of the big 6 whereas Villa have gone after them, they have a settled formation and everyone knows their job whereas Frank flip flops on formations.

I see Newcastle also gone to Utd and have give better than what they got whereas we let Utd do whatever they wanted.

Do you see what I mean? We have no aggression whatsoever......
