2022/23 Frank Lampard

It comes from utter desperation. Evertonians are, generally, enduring post-traumatic stress disorder since Moyes left. People make the point that we can't keep sacking managers - but the correct diagnosis is we can't keep appointing the wrong managers. No Everton manager - with the arguable exception of Big Ham - was sacked unfairly. In fact, every single one was left to dangle far longer than was decent. Frank is not yet in that bracket - but he can't oversee a run to the World Cup break without a few wins. If he does, he's in the danger zone.
Should fire him sooner then later. That break we'll only be missing Pickford, Gana and Onana. Perfect time for a new man to get everything ready before the restart.

Sacking managers has arguably worked for us. Not sacking them currently has us in a malaise at the bottom of the PL. Silva signed Richarlison, arguably one of our best signings. Then Carlo after that was the best manager we ever got and came off the back of sacking Silva. Carlo ultimately left us and appointing Rafael was a disaster, and Lampard was the wrong choice as well. Show some standards Everton. Last season wasn't acceptable and we cant go through it again. The limit for poor performances can't keep being extended. Half of the battle is 'feeling' like we're a big club again. We've got loser mentality at the moment. And Frank even knows there are acceptable losses. Need to kill that idea.

ha ha ha ha ha ha

Said it before, I didn't rate Lampard before he got the job. However, anyone was a better than FSW. He needs more time, but if we're flirting with relegation again in a few months the owner will have no choice but to sack him and gamble. It's how it is thesedays.

In hindsight we should have gone for Howe.
Howe has done a superb job at Newcastle IMO - took over when they were looking over their shoulder at relegation, half a season later, they're a whisker away from finishing top half. (Spending is a factor obvisouly, but it was done well).

In fairness, I suspect the reason we didn't go for Howe was (1) not a glamarous enough name for Moshiri, and (2) there was always that concern he was a great fit for B'mouth but no one else. Had a short stint at Burnley if I recall and it did not go well at all. I can understand no one taking a gamble on Mr B'mouth at the time, especially us in our predicament.

In a year or two if Newcastle move for a big name, he wont be short of offers.

I hope he gets the results we need over the coming month and we don't have to consider the worst come the World Cup. But if we get less than six points between now and then he's likely toast. And I don't have a problem with a reset then because we can't get to the stage where we are waiting until February again to save our skins. Benitez should, probably, have been sacked after the Watford debacle. I felt it would be hard to recover from that kind of capitulation - but he had some credit in the bank after a very good start to the season and 15 points in his pocket. Frank needs points now. I think, on balance, he'll do enough to keep his head above water.

Hmm three defeats on the spin. The game against Crystal Palace this Saturday kind of takes on must win status now.

It goes to show that i was getting carried away with this talk about finishing inside the top ten. This season is all about getting those 40 plus points as soon as possible.

Then hopefully we can get more of the high earners off the books in the summer, and hopefully Mr Thelwell will come up trumps and find us some bargain price hidden gems.
Maybe we need the pressure of a period must-wins.
The club has had a defeatist attitude for over 20 years against the 'better' sides, last season it took us to be on our knees before the club woke up.
Atm we're sleepwalking towards the same scenario, pressure on Frank should be the boot up the arse that everyone needs to turn it up a gear, too many going through the motions just now.

If he turns it around because we play a lot better I'm happy to see him keep going.

My worry is he "turns it around" because we have a couple of days where the breaks fall our way and then when that stops we're back to losing a lot.

Oh, I have no expectation that he will be a long-term success. At best, I see him scrabbling a draw or win on Saturday, following up with maybe five points from the next three and then, perhaps drawing one more before the break. The bare minimum. We'll then lose the first two after the World Cup, draw a few, maybe win a game before three more defeats and just about survive come May. The summer will be heralded as another opportunity to rebuild, but he'll never really have the momentum he needs because, frankly, we won't spend enough money to attract the really good difference makers we need - and Frank just isn't much of a football manager. A slow bleed, basically, but perfectly in tune with our existence as a club since Howard Kendall left in 1987.
