Win, lose or draw on Saturday we will be a quarter way through the season and if we continued the points per game ratio across the season we are finishing on 40 plus points likely finishing around 13-15th going by last seasons table.

If you allow also the context of the bizarre lack of striker for the first games, and having some of the more difficult ties in this first portion of the season then I would say we are doing ok. Personally I think if you have said in the past you are willing to give this particular manager time then there’s not much happened of major concern to change that opinion.

On the negative side, I honestly am quite calm about the various issues being raised as for me they are all reasonable problems that can be expected from a team in transition and exactly the sort of stuff you want to see improved. However for me that’s improvement over a longer period of time than a desperately pressurised relegation battle and a quarter of a season with new players settling in.

Any of the concerns about the manager can for me be out under “let’s review it at the end of the season” so long as we continue on track for 40 plus points and at no point are actually adrift of other clubs in the bottom three. So yes, that includes dropping into the bottom three at some points when we hit the kind of poor run a lower half team like us are always going to hit.

We are 15th, we aren’t consistent, we have very few players you can rely upon to shine each week and we clearly lack attacking support at full back and another striker of reasonable quality. Big surprise we aren’t up to much yet.

And no, I don’t give him extra leeway for being English or “getting” the club. He is just another manager and is lucky to have come along at a particularly low point as expectations couldn’t be lower. Just keep us safe whilst the squad is freshened up and we make it to the stadium. Hopefully we might look a better prospect to whatever managerial talent is out there when the moment comes, assuming as I do that Lampard won’t do anything special and we will for once calmly replace a manager with another one we have lined up end of next season.

Not very exciting like, but I’ll take a couple seasons of dullness if it might mean a springboard to attempt a more coherent plan to rise up the table to better times than the one we have seen since Moshiri came in.

Sounds likes it's...a rebuld

I totally agree with your overall point but i think it is important to note that the first sentence isn’t true, and that changes the way people are going to look at things. If we lose on Saturday we’re definitely not tracking to be getting 40+ points, we’ll be tracking to get 31/32 points. It’s a big difference.

I refuse to swing to extremes on a game by game basis. Time for the bigger picture, time to let Lampard work through a rough patch. We have improved on the field massively even if results don't really match yet.

I am not concerned about relegation. We have the characters for a fight now. Up front is where the problems lie because we can't/won't be able to keep clean sheets every game so it needs a new face January.

How many of those teams actually scored? The United ones were Brentford (start of the season) and City (obvs).

Newcastle have conceded 2 goals at home (3 against City but again thats always an anomaly).

What's the big chances missed? We had 2 against Spurs, scored against United... Newcastle have the best defence in the league.

Yes, the attack needs sorting. It's plainly obvious. But surely he gets time to fix it?

It's like having a perfectly good car and all you need is petrol in it...but instead you send it for scrap because it's not working.
Agree time is needed but only if he can demonstrate that progress can be made in that time, to me the results, performances and inconsistencies look just like last season despite changing much of the so called "dead wood".

Hopefully this is the boot up the arse Frank needs becuase if we dont get results we could be in the drop zone at the weekend... 1 point off the relegation zone, 2 points off 2nd bottom and just 4 points off bottom.

I can see Villa picking up now along with Wolves and Leicester who still have good players.

I really hope we pick up some wins soon to take the heat off him a bit
Palace game is critical. The atmosphere against United seemed much more sour than it has done, I think that needs arresting by a positive, front-foot performance. The last thing we need is the Goodison crowd being on the edge of turning for every home game, and it's up to the players to nip that in the bud now.

Improved? LOL. Two lucky and totaly undeserved wins against underperforming teams is progress. Really. The crap played is progress? Then goodnight Everton.

I think for me the most dispiriting aspect of our current form has been the midfield, I was very estatic with our midfield acquisitions over the past transfer window and I know we've played strong teams recently but we've been completely dominated and overrun in that area it felt like last season when we played 2 in the midfield and we're just incapable of stringing together a sucession of passes. I could see progress despite in the initial games we were lacking an attacking proficiency now it feels like a regression. Hopefully Everton can assert themselves more in the midfield against palace. For me this season is about instilling some cohesion and Frank still has time but the last few games have been dire so this might be deluded but I'm hoping for a positive reaction from Frank and the squad.
Also hope frank becomes aware that you can make substitutions before the 70th minute of a match
It might be a bit controversial but I`d like to see a midfield of Garner as the 6 with Doucoure and Onana breaking from midfield in the 8s, utilise Iwobi wide to create some chances because our wingers cant and Gueye could do with a few games out, he keeps getting caught on the ball.......

Gerard is gone. Lampard will be next. The crap being served up cant continue!
If you look at us and Villa they look much better in terms of quality and the ability to go on a winning run than us, obviously Villa canning Gerrard will show they wont accept ? and dont mess about but our board will accept just that and leave it way too long...

It will be interesting to see who goes in at Villa... my concern is that they will be another team out of the relegation mix.

Football is about more than playing good stuff going forward
We all agreed under Benitez that EVERYTHING needed to change
Frank has has one proper window and completely transformed our defence from 16th worst in the league to the best after 8 or so games. Away at Spurs last season we shipped five goals and at Newcastle 3 so whilst it’s disappointing there’s clearly huge improvement at the back.
The midfield is also more combative and much stronger as seen in most games. I felt we had Newcastle in the middle of the park other than the 10 mins after their goal where they got fired up. We were outclassed in the center against United and Spurs unfortunately but we’re not at their level.

Up top though, we look crap and obviously replacing Richy with Maupay and McNeil isn’t like for like and it’s no surprise we’re not doing enough when we already weren’t good enough going forward last season.

I see huge improvements in defence and midfield, even more when Patterson was in there but that’s just unlucky. Giving Frank time, to me, is saying good job on the defence and mid - now for the love of god sort out the attack, and personally I’d back him to get it right.

I like Frank but at some point you just have to face the reality of it all. Half a season last season which gave plenty of time to avoid a relegation battle and we still ended up in one right till the second to last game, full summer window to restructure and our best player was allowed to leave without being replaced, 11 games into the new season with just 2 wins, closer to the bottom than the top, no threat whatsoever and having no shots on target for consecutive games, most of the players cannot even pass the ball to a team mate and frustrating and uninspiring to watch.

Should already be gone but we will leave it for a few months and then have no backup plan like we always do so it will be impossible to get anything out of the season at all.

Have no enthusiasm to even watch us this weekend and probably won't tbh.
