Season so far and up to the WC, little rough patch, not enough wins but not enough goals in the side, plenty of chances to get points out of the next 4.

2 wins, 4 draws, 5 defeats vs 1 win, 3 draws, 9 defeats
Yes, he's got four points more right now that the terminal run of Benitez (10 v 6). But he's got five points less right now from the same number of fixtures as Benitez last season (10 v 15).

So, a few consecutive defeats - or say three draws and a defeat in the coming four - puts him in very similar waters. People can rail against it all they like, but he needs to start putting points on the board.

Richarlison, fit Dom.

Any team that struggles to score and struggles to keep a clean sheet will find every single game difficult - no matter the opposition. We are almost as likely to pick up something at home to Man United as we are away at, say, Leicester. This is why the writing off of the last three made no sense whatsoever to me. While we might well have lost all three - and we did, as it turned out - we had to demand decent performances in those games to show that we were still progressing. And what we got was regression. No points, no performances.

People are deluded if they think Lampard will be allowed to continue his YTS Coaching course while his Everton bumps around the relegation zone. No club of our size gives managers unlimited time and unqualified support. I hope he gets a win for us tomorrow and gets a decent return from these next four games before the World Cup. I don't want yet another managerial change - but he's got to continually earn the right to stay in the job. Every manager at every club does. If he can't get us relatively comfortable by the World Cup, he'll be right in the soup. I'm not personally invested in his career trajectory. I can't understand why any Evertonian would be. I like him - but I want results. I want progress. I want performances. If you can't get a result, give us a performance where you have something to build on. He got nothing at all out of the last three games, so now the safety net is gone and it's time for results. I think we'll win tomorrow. I think he's doing just enough to eke out something - but the progress is very slow indeed, and arguably too slow. He needs this win tomorrow. That will give him something to cling on to and ease the pressure. Anything less and we could well be spiralling.

Yep I've no argument with any of that. It's a results business and rightly he will be criticised when he hasn't performed to the best of his ability.

I mentioned yesterday, 7 of those 11 players who started against Newcastle were in the first team last season and played a huge part in sticking us deep into the crap. So I'm not surprised that it's not all plain sailing ( though that doesn't mean I just shrug my shoulders and say "oh well it's not Franks fault")

I can't remember what i rated the transfer window (in the transfer window thread) maybe 4 or 5 out of 10, as it was glaringly obvious we were miles short up top. They basically written off the first 5 games which was a disgrace imo and just added to the initial pressure already on Lampard.

So yes, we need a couple of wins minimum out of the next 4 games and ideally tomorrow would be a great start.

I sympathise with Lampard. But not to the extent that I would think he could do a good job at Everton if he fails to win at least five points from the next available 12. That bar is not high. He really needs to jump it.

This is what @ForeverBlue92 said on January 2nd:

Most managers Moshiri chased had something on their CV to have some hope tho.

Koeman - 5th + 6th place finishes with Southampton playing some good togger and a couple of pots.

Silva - few pots in Portugal/Greece (albeit underwhelming at Watford after a few good results).

Alladyce - performances were crap but he did what he does and made us solid.

Ancelotti - great CV

Benitez - great CV

Lampard has none of the above unfortunately - bottled an FA Cup final against an Arsenal side famed for being soft bellied in recent years and failed to get a decent Derby side promoted. Currently has a poor win percentage as EFC Boss with performances not much better than last season.

If those who held Benitez to such high standards did the same with Lampard I would imagine there would be far less excuses being thrown around currently if we're going down the road of whataboutery.

I'm confident if we had the same forward line as Benitez did start of last season, we'd have more points now.

Can I ask you an honest question Dave, because I really do need an explanation. Why are you suddenly ignoring the fact that we have a director of football and refusing to acknowledge his existence ever?
I dont ignore it. I just know that the manager has the final say...especially when the DoF is not a major figure in the game.

The bottom line is that the manager carries the can.

I want FL to succeed as much as anyone, but I wont ignore the fact he allowed us to go into a season with zero fire power.
