2022/23 Frank Lampard

I can see both side of that debate. Whilst Richarlison needed replacing, it was always gonna be extremely difficult to adequately replace him AND strengthen the other areas of the team.

I think McNeil was brought in for a number of factors. He's a good character; a quiet lad, who works hard. We could get him on the drip, on reasonable wages. He's young, English, and will likely have a resale value for some time. I also supported bringing him in because it would have been criminal for a club such as ourselves to not have a single left footed (wide)midfielder. Obviously it's not absolutely vital to have a left footed (wide)midfielder in the side at all times, but surely you've absolutely GOT to have that in your armoury?
The CD was sorted out for buttons.

McNeil looks to be as poor a use of cash as we've seen in the Moshiri era. Lightweight and one paced. No one can tell me we couldn't have put that cash to better use in terms of adding a cutting edge to our attack.

I'm confident if we had the same forward line as Benitez did start of last season, we'd have more points now.
Perhaps. But he has what he has. The next four games are huge opportunities for him. He can put all this talk of pressure to bed with a good haul and some decent performances in matches against very moderate opposition indeed. I think if we win tomorrow - or not lose, at least - then he's got a good chance of lift off before the World Cup. But, honestly, if we get, say, less than five points from these four, then I think we're in blind faith territory then.

My personal view is that we need to support him through thick and thin - because at some point a bit of stability trumps feckless punts and allows some kind of vision to eventually become real. The board is the common denominator at Everton. Managers, to some extent, are beyond the point. If you're going to appoint Frank, stick with him. I personally wouldn't have appointed him - but if you do you should own that decision and support the man. But the real world is more ruthless and mendacious. Moshiri will act if the results spiral and our status becomes a subject for public speculation/ridicule once more. I suspect that point comes in November if we glean less than five from the next 12. Frank can't really have any complaints if that happens - he knows the rules of the game. A win tomorrow goes a long way to securing his job for another while yet. I can see us grinding out a 1-0.

I feel like “improved” is a bit generous, “fractionally less gash” seems a more appropriate description of us relative to last season.
But surely anything that is better than what came before by definition is an improvement.

Club needs fixing in more than just the managers seat, that much has become clear and so with that in mind I personally will ride the storm to let Thelwell and Lampard carry on the good work they have started, even if there are bumps in the road. I can't help but feel sticking with that coaching set up will eventually pay dividends.

People should have shown Rafael the same level of support you want them to show Frank, it was shameful they didn't and inflicted a relegation fight on the players.
Yes those horrible fans constantly playing 2 man midfield, out of form players playing, causing internal conflict, sacking staff, falling out with players, selling players, having your fat little toad mate call out evertonians on Twitter

All the fans fault that mate.

You stood on the wrong side of history my friend, time to pay the piper

Agree, good we are actually on the same page

It’s nice that a former evertonian is blaming the fans; you handed that fan card in last year so your opinion is that of a horse punching fat Geordie……irrelevant
I dont blame the fans, I blame those who turned on the manager, real Everton fans support the Evertonia manager, its who we are, those who unjustifiably turn for none football reasons are merely passing through

I totally agree with your overall point but i think it is important to note that the first sentence isn’t true, and that changes the way people are going to look at things. If we lose on Saturday we’re definitely not tracking to be getting 40+ points, we’ll be tracking to get 31/32 points. It’s a big difference.

FFS I can't count, and I work in finance..

It is a big difference. I'm fairly confident we will finish on 40 plus anyways, but as others are saying the whole club is so unstable right the way through that unfortunately the pressure is still there ready to explode if results don't come.

As mentioned expectations are low. Get us minimum 6pts more before the sham world cup and we will be a point per game. I'd be confident that the team will gel better over time as the spirit seems much improved, so with that and some activity in January window you'd expect a better pts per game average from Jan on which would be enough to see us finish with a bang average safe position.

A manager who got 5 points from 12 games wouldn't get support at a Fulham or a Bournemouth yet you expect Everton Football Club to support that. Pathetic. Worst manager I've seen at the club who had us in our worst run of form since the 1950's.

Will always put more blame on Moshiri for appointing Benitez rather than Rafael himself mind you. Everyone knew it'd be a disaster but him.
