2022/23 Frank Lampard

Yeah it's why I'm still positive, this season won't be pretty but there won't be sleepless nights, I'll take that
agree...last season we were lucky the League included Norwich and Watford, so in effect, only one relegation spot (18th) was 'up for grabs' (or rather, not grabbing). Again, we were fortunate there was Burnley floating about. This season, a team as parlous as ours of 2021/22, goes down...unquestionably.

Yeah it's playing to.our strengths, might not be easy on the eye but only the results count anyway.
Its not just about results though surly... I want Everton to win as much as anyone but I do also want some form of entertainment from it as well. And no I don't want us to get relegated playing open attractive football but we certainly need to start taking more risks. To many games this season we have started well in the 1st half and created chances only to sit back in the 2nd half and look for the draw when their has been a good chance of us taking the 3 points if we went for it a bit more.

And I am massive fan of what Lampard has done since he came in and was happy when we got him but do feel we need to start going for games.

Well yes, but those players brought in make us solid, but perhaps not threatening.

But we have to reference previous seasons. A significant weakness was capitulation and leaking goals. We weren't exactly prolific either. However, build from the back is the saying, no?

But why only last season ? In the five seasons prior to that one we finished 7th, 8th, 8th, 12th, 10th.

Persistently referencing last season is like referencing Martinez's first season when we finished 5th with a records points haul. These two seasons are not the norm for this club/squad of players.

But scoring more goals then the opponents and points is the purist form of entertainment when it comes too football

He is setting us up to be hard to beat away. Instead of losing every game like last season, he is turning them into draws. Then he can start the work of turning the draws into wins.
Yes, I think this is right. I am old-school: all good teams start from the back. Lampard has transformed the centre of defence. He already had a fine goalkeeper and Pickford will now multiply the impact of having two good central defenders as the synergy between them bears fruit. The two Benitez-signed full-backs are also impactful. So, the basis of a good side is now in place (injuries permitting).

I am happy with the improvement on last season to date. We are competitive in every game. This is tangible and adequate for now. But at some point - no later than the start of next season, all going well - Lampard will need to evince tangible improvement up the field too - and ensure no slacking off at the back. But Tim Cahill is right. This season will be "the telling of Frank".

We were poor yesterday. We've been poor 4 out of last 5 games(and Villa and Forest and Chelsea). We're on course for 40 points. Those are my metrics.

40 points is progress. We’re a poor team, like it or not 40 points will be Lampard’s first milestone this season and we probably won’t go loads beyond that.

Let’s improve in the January window if we can. Let’s solidify this season in the league. Then let’s have another solid summer window getting poor players out and better players in. Let’s look for improvement again. Let’s do that for 2 or 3 seasons under Lampard and we’ll be in a miles better place than we are now.

The next attacking signings are important.

We need more magic on the wings, Gray and Gordon don't have the consistency to their game. Gray probably never will but Gordon still young so you never know.

Agreed. We need someone with genuine composure and quality in the final third pulling the strings. Would have been interesting to see how James would have fared in a front 3 with DCL and Gordon and this midfield. Not to be sadly!

If we can get some genuine quality up top in January then I could see us maybe nudging into the top half.

God knows how we take the step after that towards Europe without buying 2/3 attackers at £50millon plus each!

He wasn't though was he, the fans were, look at yesterday, that was pathetic, are the fans throwing childish hissy fits like they were this stage last season? No, even though we are doing worse right now then we were at this stage last season.
I just hope we have learnt to actually support Frank but I fear a few more bad results and they could easily turn on him.

Besides your forgetting Rafael was long gone when we fell into the drop zone, the way teams behind us are playing we could easily find ourselves there again if we don't start scoring
?

Here was me thinking it was Rafael that isolated the better players in the team, broke the squad’s spirit, had us on a run of one win in (and 9 or 10 defeats) in 12 games, with a team that looked beaten before a match even kicked off….but no, all very clear to me now, it was me and the rest of the fans that did that and were taking us down.

Ah the old he isolated players nonsense haha

The run you talk about happened after the fans turned, weird to note we were doing better at that turning point then we are now.

40 points would be very underwhelming, he'd be under the spotlight in the summer and rightly so imo. I like our team, I think we have good players for the most part, not to be getting overrun by a very average Fulham side anyway.

But I'm going to stop speaking on it because I also like Frank and hope he can improve on the first 13 games and brings us on to where we want to be.

We can't shop at that level of market expecially if we need 2 or 3.

We have to hope Lampard and the scouting team have found some gems. Our signings under Lampard gives me hope.

It’s so typical of us, isn’t it.

We had the slowest, least mobile team in the league, with some real quality like Siggi, James. We couldn’t really utilise that quality because all the players were so one paced.

Now we’ve got a much more pacy, mobile team, particularly midfield and attack but we’ve none of the quality so we can’t make the most of all the speed/mobility.

Ah, the old, he didn’t isolate the players nonsense. If you watched those players and thought they were happy and playing for the manager then wow. Richarlison mentioned it in two interviews after Benitez had gone.
