2022/23 Frank Lampard

We shouldn't have sacked Silva. But we all lost our nerve, myself included. He was fired because of poor recruitment, not because he is a bad coach.

I don't believe Lampard is the worst at all btw. But he most certainly inherited the worst situation.
It's between him and Koeman.

I'm putting Benitez to the side because he failed here for a whole different set of reasons.

Pretending that the board and players don’t get blame is genuinely bizarre mate. I don’t know how many times I can say it, the manager will always be the focal point, the figurehead, the one who becomes a legend for winning things but gets sacked for failing. Everybody knows that the board and players are a/the issue, pretending that’s not the case doesn’t help your cause really.

No one is willing to stand up and demand better from board or owner. The lads tried to make a point last year and got so much stick from other supporters.

That's why I don't agree with your point.

The problem is Frank is the worst of all of the guys we've sacked. Why is this the one where we hold on?
Yup, zero track record. Ancelotti and Benitez had CVs dripping in titles. Allardyce was the "Red Adair" of relegation battlers. Even Koeman - a far greater player than Lampard - had a few pots as a manager and a serviceable job at Southampton to point to. Frank is most similar to Silva - except Silva had climbed the managerial ladder based on his managerial record. Frank did it by name recognition and pure star power. So there is less than ever to hang on to when the results are tanking and we need to see reasons why Frank should be the one we persevere with.

I don't think he'll ever amount to a decent manager. Would I sack him? Not really. I'd give him time - after all, if I had appointed him I'd feel a debt of honour to support him when times are tough. But I didn't appoint him, wouldn't have, and don't believe in him. So if we could genuinely trade-up, like we did when we appointed Carlo, then I would move in a heartbeat. But we're not getting a Thomas Tuchel, and in most cases managers make no significant impact on a club's league position that couldn't be attributed to salary outlay. So, what's the point really?

Every sacking has been more than merited in the Moshiri era. It's the appointments which were disastrous (Carlo, excepted).

I don't think we did the right work in the summer. It was inevitable we would struggle when we didn't replace Richarlison and signed championship level attackers for over £30m.

But I've been there and said all this many times. It gives me know joy to see it all play out like this. We are desperate for the right signing in attack in early January, but how can we possibly have faith they will deliver.
We did good work in midfield and the defence, but left ourselves desperately short up top - even though we did try, trying isn't enough. There's no excuse for it, and for not being ready to go in January.

Not sure, think Silva was harsh with hindsight.

If only we had appointed Arteta in December 2019, like I suggested.... lol
Nah, can't agree. Marco was like Frank - a nice guy who gave off a "progressive" image, but who wasn't able for the job. That's not to say he's a bad manager. It's just that Everton is a particularly awkward job. The level of pressure here is far greater than at any club outside the so-called big six. We lack the resources of those clubs, but rival them in historical significance. So we have expectation in our DNA despite the corrosive virus that is Bill Kenwright's near-30-year tenure as our most malign influence.

Arteta is turning into a really interesting appointment. Fair play if you saw something in him. I thought he was a con-man, but it's beginning to look like I got that one wildly wrong. The week we got Carlo when they got Mikel was the week I thought we'd look back on as the moment we started to catch and eventually overtake Arsenal. Sure enough, Mikel won the FA Cup and Carlo the Champions League. But we, once more, remained the jilted bride.

Not sure about Silva but we have definatly been sacking managers too soon and too often, just look at our starting 11, there has been times over the last few years we fielded a team with players bought by five managers, its madness
