2022/23 Frank Lampard

They were limited players (aside from James) but we can’t just write off their entire contribution to Carlo’s teams.

James was one of the best number 10s in the world and a million miles ahead of every other player we had in that team. He got us points by himself. Him leaving was inevitable because we couldn’t afford him but we can’t pretend it didn’t leave a huge hole.

I was no fan of Siggurdson Bernard Walcott but they haven’t really been replaced and James Richarlison definitely haven’t

We’ve got Gray Gordon McNeil Townsend (injured) Maupay Rondon

The drop in wages is there to see but the drop in quality is absolutely enormous.
James was a lazy overrated disaster. Nothing else. The guy plays now in joke leagues!

Hey Egil, long time no chat.

Do you think Lampard should be sacked? What are your thoughts on perhaps reappointing Allardyce and letting him have a proper chance to take the club forward?
Loss against Bournmouth = PPG under 1 point. No need to elaborate any further. Nothing behind the results to indicate that we are developing. The entertainment value is zero. Looking forward to the WC, who do you think will win?

Honestly have no idea re: the WC. Conditions will play a part. I'm fairly sure it won't be England!

Yeah, I think Lampard's position will be tenuous of the scenario you outline happens. A large part from how Moshiri operates

Disaster? 6 goals and 8 assists in 26 games does not a disaster make
26 games? He was here for over a season. Where was he for the rest of the season? 6 goals when the sun shines and the rest you take your winter sleep? Why does he play in a joke league now "Mr world class".

FFS - he isn't doing well, he's not doing disastrously... he is playing with virtually the same squad he arrived to. He needs far more time - and he should be given it unless it really starts looking precarious relegation wise (See end of Jan last year - that was 19 games in).

Lampard needs 2 wins from Bournemouth (A), Wolves (H), City (A), Brighton (H), Southampton (H) to be ahead of last year's tally at the same point.

People underrate how good Ancelotti was. He had us winning games away from home with Iwobi behind Siggurdson and 4 CBs at the back. He actually made Michael Keane look competent, won at Anfield with half our team out and for a period had Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looking like top players. He then goes and wins the league and CL with Madrid becoming the only manager to win 4. He can literally make a claim to being one of the best, if not the best, managers of all time.

Benitez was always going to be worse than him, and he was always going to reap the problems of Ancelotti’s spending. James was apparently on well over 100k and we couldn’t sustain that, he was always going to go, then Siggurdson was unavailable (not that I ever rated him), Bernard wanted out, then Dominic Calvert-Lewin gets crocked for the whole season.

His remit wasn’t to build on Ancelotti’s foundations, we’d massively overstretched under Carlo and it hadn’t worked out. His job was to slash the wage bill and keep us in the league. It’s the same job Lampard has now.

Anyone who underrated him (and a lot on here did) I don't take seriously. Italian Big Sam he was called on here.

His remit wasn't to slash the wage bill, that was the DoF job. And also "keep us in the league" wasn't on the table as we'd finished 10th last season. He wanted to do things his way...and anyone who questioned it left/were fired. He was never rebuilding which was his major error...he didn't have a long term plan.

He signed 8 players this summer.

Lampard needs 2 wins
Fixed that for you Mert

Don't think last Seasons points is total we should be using as any sort of bench mark.
If we are we are truly devoid of any ambition, even if that is to be mid table and stable
We have 8 new players and only lost one of any note.
The results are not good enough, the performances are not good enough, we are dire to watch , the only thing remotely working is the defence, midfield is all over the place, attack (can we really call it that) that has less shots and goals than anybody else.
He doesn't seem to have a plan B in some games, which is a worry.
He needs backing with a couple of attackers or he will end up getting sacked.
He can't dine out on keeping us up last season if we don't improve.
The board are to blame as well should give him the tools to get a fighting chance.
I will be honest I don't know why he was even given the job, when he came , but there are some encouraging signs , he identified most of the deadwood, seen where we were weak, and acted were he could
But has been badly let down by the board not getting in a couple of forward players.
I hope they give him a few players and give him a fighting chance, if not he is a dead man walking, he deserves better than that.
For me I want the board to back him , but I worry they will hang him out to dry, the useless bastards
