I love an away trip to Cavan, always stay the night for the craic.
That's Jennifer malone. Fairly sure she's from kildare . But she goes to matches in all sports and is pretty well known all over IrelandLiterally in tears seeing the Waterford captain giving the trophy to a lovely Waterford Down's girl . That was so human, so decent, so important for our fellow citizens with health challenges.
Maybe she is related....I don't know. But she was out front and prominent for the presentation. Absolutely lovely ?
Can you see Kildare mounting a serious challenge for Leinster? One of my favourite away days a Chara. Breffni is one of the best little grounds.
Absolutely lovely. I have known quite a number of Down's people throughout my life. The warmest most loving people you could meet. That's Jennifer malone. Fairly sure she's from kildare . But she goes to matches in all sports and is pretty well known all over Ireland
I do think there is a bias against Ulster in terms of discipline. Hopefully the Dubs can drag themselves up after a horrible league campaign. Can you see Kildare mounting a serious challenge for Leinster?
And what’s your take on the suspensions from our game? I accept I sound like a conspiracy theorist but we walked right into that. Donegal played us like a fiddle.
RTE focussing on the handbags in our Tyrone and Donegal games for me is disappointing. When yourselves and Kerry did the same it was ‘setting a marker’.
Do feel that Ulster is unfairly labelled in this respect.

Great post mateDubs are there to be beaten a Chara, Kildare will give us a game, Meath to despite their troubles and Id be quietly wary of Louth. Alls not well, I don’t really believe a lot of the rumours that fly around, but after our Monaghan game was speaking to someone very very close to the group, who told me three senior players went to Dessie and said - can we look at this - it’s not working. All three told if they didn’t like it they could leave the panel, things aren’t good and Dessie won’t be changing.
I thought the “melee” was overdone in media to be honest, I’m on the road a long time, I’ve seen 100s of melees during and after games, I don’t mind them to be honest, shows a bit if passion. But the lads and managers will be upset themselves they all fell for it, they all know. Once the spotlight went on it, it was inevitable, the GAA would act. I think a lot of pundits have an axe to grind with Ulster teams, particularly from the South West - were there is an unhealthy over representation in my view and often an active agenda, unfairly so. I think Rian O Neil, was a lucky man mind on the but I saw, though I think the 3/2 split de facto puts the blame unfairly on Armagh, I think the Donegal players suspended are very important players for them though.
Overall I definitely think there is an unfair bias toward Ulster teams, as you say I was down behind the goal in Tralee when we and Kerry had a mass brawl after the game in 2019 - though I think Jonny Small may have got a suspension, the following year we had a brawl up in Omagh in the Tunnel at half time in a Tornado, fans piling in and all, dont think there was any punishment, All Ireland final in 2020, ourselves and Mayo had slaps going in to the tunnel at half time, while Philly McMahon square punched Aidan O Shea on the sideline last year in the All Ireland Semi. If it was an Ulster team, it would be puke football and thuggery and likely suspensions. So definitely Ulster gets unfair treatment. There is a snobbery in football in so called traditional football counties and in the GAA that always see Ulster as upstarts and bring the over physical approach, that leads to bias in my view, unfairly so in my view for Ulster teams. Was laughing at Pat Spillane last week praising Kerry defence, passion, will to win anyway, getting men back in a defensive structure - we know what we would say if it was an Ulster team - case in point. Objectively i think the GAA unfairly cultivate Dublin and Kerry, in terms of profile and romance. Look at David Clifford’s profile Vs Rian O Neil, whose as talented to my eye.
Overall, I think Ulster teams are hugely marginalised, which undermines the All Ireland Championship, it’s far easier for Dublin or Kerry to win an all Ireland, then Armagh, Tyrone or Donegal and that’s unfair - while the Ulster Championship is brilliant and exciting, the sheer competitiveness of it, undermines the counties in Ulster and other counties and provinces can saunter to a semi/quarter fairly fresh. Unfair. I remember when Leinster was competitive and we and Meath used to batter each other years after year, you’d be so exhausted in every way getting through Leinster, you’d have little in the tank for the rest of the championship, that’s how I see Ulster at the moment and as I think it’s harder for an Ulster team to win an All Ireland then say Dublin or Kerry.
Great post mate
As posted elsewhere I never played hurling when n I was growing up in Dublin. However, living in KK for 32 years and married to Mrs Tipp BR, it is unquestionably the greatest sport. Today's League 1 Final was brilliant. You’d wish some of the Everton lads would have the passion for the odd melee or two pal!
Sometimes its like chalk and cheese watching Gaelic Football Vs Football.

I would love to put some of our millionaires in a GAA match. Would they survive 5 minutes?
Didn't know he is related to Dessie. Sadly I was no use to my daughter as she played camøgie. She still has a fistful of county medals with O Loughlin Gaels. Its a beautiful sport mate. I’ve a funny story about playing football in America and being rescued by our hurlers in a bar scuffel, I’ll tell you some time. Came to it too late myself and regret not playing it as a kid more, wished I’d grown up in this era when kids can play anything. When I was coming up, I was playing soccer, rugby and Gaelic Football - if the Gaelic football club found out I togged out for the soccer or Rugby team, I wouldn’t be picked for the Gaelic football match at the weekend, they didn’t want us playing other sports, real cloak and dagger stuff and stressful for a kid, thankfully it’s all changed, but could never really have a proper go at Hurling earlier because of it and the juggling and secrecy. A real regret.
Seamus was a handy footballer by all accounts the 2012 Donegal All Ireland winning team woukd have been his peers and his underage side dominated in the county coming up, he likely would have been have been in the Donegal panel in 2012 and going on by all accounts. He’s a fist cousin of the bauld Dessie you know.![]()
