Transfer Rumour Gabriel (Lille)

Phil: We'll start with Gabriel. Brazilian defender, 22, from Lille - a player the club have tracked for a long time and made headway on progressing a deal before COVID-19.

However our understanding is that now they've walked away and it looks like the player will actually be heading to Arsenal. Everton had a valuation but were unwilling to meet the asking price.

There you go, confirmed that we never ever had a deal agreed, so you can stop calling Brands all sorts now.

...absolutely, Fred. DCL purchased for £1m, I’m sure we’d realise a healthy return on that now. Can’t understand how some posters think this approach is a waste of money.
Those sort of purchases are what is keeping the club afloat. They are not a nice to have, they are absolutely essential to our business.

Better not become the next Koulibaly...we lost out last year on Ocampos...and it shows this year that it was a big mistake. On a side note Arsenal are doing their job brilliantly...they are improving...us 3 weeks from start of the season and not looking good.

They have spent £30m on a centre half when they already have Luiz, Chambers, Holding, Saliba, Sokratis, Mustafi & Pablo Mari.
Looks to me like he was offered by the agent and they didnt really think it through.
Thats alot of money in 1 position

This is Everton of course he'll end up being boss.

For me the reality is I dont expect Brands to be able to sell the likes of Bolasie and Sandro as they are utter tosh on big wages.

However players like Kenny, Davies, Delph, Bernard who are either young/English or have some form of ability (Bernard) or some baffling reputation as being a leader (Delph) we could get out the door for nominal fees however Brands has shown difficulty in getting rid of these sorts of players.

If we cant spend until we sell then Brands has to accept any offer for these sorts of players to get the wages off the books.

I’m still confident we will get both

The noises dont sound great about getting both now. Is CA going to accept another 4 years of this haggling and dithering, constantly cocking up transfer deals when other clubs can get them done in days?

I dont think CA will last till the end of his contract, I think he will walk away from it...

Went for a measly £27m and we tried to renegotiate the fee and ended up missing out.

Brands is a disgrace at this point. Completely out of his depth and is letting Ancelotti down.

His agent was banding him about like a cheap hooker in the end, coincidentally the same thing happened with the same agent and Malcolm last summer and look how that turned out
