Maybe I googled the wrong plant, cos years ago I got one (I think) for a small garden with terrible soil, and it thrived with zero intervention. The flowers were vivid purple, and a bit poppy like, and the greenery spread about 4 feet, stopping anything growing under it.

Cistus looked the same. On google.
Cistus is fine hardy nice flowers roots easy from cuttings too - many varieties to choose from - sorry I thought it read Citrus .....totally different genus of plants ;)

Hand full to a square metre, granular is best, avoid the cheap powder..... - do not do it on a windy day as it may kill your broadleaf plants in your borders - water in immediately a good soak - leave it for ten days then sow lawn seen in the patchy areas it leaves after mowing it, using an over sowing with multi purpose compost - avoid cutting the germinated patches ten days after germination of the grass seed.....
Thanks for the reply but it was meant to be a joke as we have a one acre lawn and at the moment a guy is parking his helicopter here ! But I couldn't find the photo .

I'm too young to have ever worked there don't know :D
I come across real snakes plus eggs in compost heaps in my long career, unfortunately came across a few Human Snakes in my career also !
All in all had a great successful career I was told never to go into Horticulture in the early 1970s - ignored their advice, and what a boom industry it turned into ......moved all over the country with my job still hold a fantastic tan on my skin I think I made the right choice ......only Ill heath stopped me at the age of 54 11 years ago .....
Member of the institute of Horticulture, I gave lectures on peat free growing ended up on top pay - after starting on £9.35p! Became a Nursery Superintendent under 2 acres of glass houses producing 3/4 of a million plants per year....
This is impressive ... there are some folks on GOT should be discouraged by law to keep away from nurseries

I got many athorn in my youth propagating Berberis - the thorns stuck in you finger go septic in an hour.....
Dig deep to get them out immediately really lethal thorns........many varieties.........
I've got little red swellings on my hands today. Not a major problem but it's a lovely plant that charges a high price for its favours!

@Joey66 any advice on how to stop raspberry bushes from taking over a flower bed? I quite like having it for the fruit but it's a constant battle hacking it back.

Was thinking of a trench filled with concrete to put a collar around it?

Unfortunately they send out runners everywhere - after fruiting be brutal prune back to 30 cm dig the main bush up and plant it in a large container then dig the runners out seperatey.....
Make a massiisve hole and plunge your massive pot in the hole at ground level - this will mean in the summer you will have to water & feed it more as it regrow, you may sacrifice fruit in the first season but the runners will be captivated within reason in the future this applies to any mint plants too...
I had a lovely yellow raspberry bush fruiting it went mad so I got fed up with it it sent runners out over 10 yards ....
A massive pot or barrel is the only attempt to stop it being invasive plus easier to select your raspberry picking ....
