They even sell snuff behind the bar!
If they were old trees you probably have the male tree you need to plant a female tree of the same stock for cross pollination - nowadays the sell self pollinating trees yours are more than likely malling stock - you have been unlucky to get all male trees or from your pips Heinz 57 varieties all male apple trees if they bare no blossom the original Apple trees were grafted onto malling stock trees - a vigorous root fast grower on a good stock for blossom etc ... which were matched to produce a known variety - try pruning them in November hard back with the centre of the tree removed it may work?Hil @Joey66 hope all is good with you.
About 10 years ago my mum in law sowed in a tray some apple pips which then grew, I planted the strongest of these in the garden which is very healthy and about 6 feet high.
It has never blossomed and therefore obviously never bore fruit, what could I do to get it to blossom or would that be impossible? I don't know what type of apple it is.
It's just one tree I planted Joey.If they were old trees you probably have the male tree you need to plant a female tree of the same stock for cross pollination - nowadays the sell self pollinating trees yours are more than likely malling stock - you have been unlucky to get all male trees or from your pips Heinz 57 varieties all male apple trees if they bare no blossom the original Apple trees were grafted onto malling stock trees - a vigorous root fast grower on a good stock for blossom etc ... which were matched to produce a known variety - try pruning them in November hard back with the centre of the tree removed it may work?
Then you need a female variety, but they have to have comparability to bear nice Apples as you have a Heinze 57 variety ask at your local Garden centre, but many new varieties are now selling pollinators, with an apple worth eating Google Malling stock plus the pip that came up may be a nice apple but may revert back as it's grafted it is not a true clone of the parent Apple you sown ...,It's just one tree I planted Joey.
Cheers Joey I will put this on my to do list. Then you need a female variety, but they have to have comparability to bear nice Apples as you have a Heinze 57 variety ask at your local Garden centre, but many new varieties are now selling pollinators, with an apple worth eating Google Malling stock plus the pip that came up may be a nice apple but may revert back as it's grafted it is not a true clone of the parent Apple you sown ...,
Malling stock were a wild vitreous heathy strong growing root stock grafted onto a lovely tasting apple - ivariety ........
In truth your tree will have weaker roots system plus may be barren from frutiing unless you can get a close match in afemale tree to blossom & cross pollinate ask your mum if she can remember the variety that was s Sown?
Other than that buy a set pollinator tasty fruit apple tree from a known licensed stock they are not cheap but not that expensive ......
Bare rooted ones in october\November you can buy a big tree plant it & stake it......a self pollinator......
Which pub is that please. I live in Cheltenham and have been to a lot of pubs in the area, some I don’t remember! It does have that rep. Beautiful place with stunning villages and amazing pubs.
