I agree with the others that 3 years was ridiculous, but thanks for showing some sensibility about Barry. Martinez starts him because he does the little things right, wins possession several times a game, and for him that's worth the risk of the occasional dodgy challenge. There's a reason the man who's paid millions to make these decisions, who's actually won a trophy as a manager, decides to stick with him.His legs had gone last season yet he was great! I imagine in RM setup this year, playing Barry's posistion must be an absolute mare!
Sorry can't just put all the blame on Barry. He's not been helped much either.
Having said that he should of been rested a little more and/or sacrificed in home games when we clearly havnt needed 2 holding midfielders. But McCarthy has been injured most the season so kind of a problem.
Do you rate Yacob at West Brom? He actually has pace but still relies on 'defending' by tripping people up intentionally, and it is often highly effective at disrupting offenses. No pace and relies on 'defending' by tripping people up intentionally. Sooner he is gone from the starting XI the better.

It might be an unfair question but it is the one that Martinez has had to deal with - don't you think it a touch unfair of you to complain without taking into account the circumstances?
McCarthy - Injured Wolfsberg 27th Nov out for a month, back for Stoke on Dec 26th but breaks down next game vs Newcastle 28th Dec, only returns 7th Feb. Misses premier league games 13, 14 , 15 ,16 ,17, 20, 21 ,22 , 23
Osman - Injured vs West Ham 22 Nov, takes a while to diagnose problem so plays in a couple of games but not seen since 2 min cameo vs Man City 6th Dec. Missing league games 16 onwards
Gibson - last match 14th Nov for Ireland, first appearance on bench Crystal Palace. Misses games 12-22
Basically since end November until this week if we didn't want to play Barry our choices in midfield been to partner Besic with Barkley or a youth team player like Ledson. Perhaps we should have, especially in a game such as West Brom or Hull, but it isn't quite as straight forward as made out.
As for the Capital one league cup game it was at the end of September and Barry was rested for that game - Gibson and Besic were partnered together, Barry didn't even make the bench.
Yes. Thats the rules. 2 yellows = red. He's still on 9 yellows.
Otherwise he would have served 2 games for a 3 games offence. This way he will still eventually serve 3 games.
Will he though,is there not an date in the season where if you haven't received the 10th yellow, the 2 match ban becomes void, an amnesty of sorts?
Tbh despite being a fan of Barry I agree with you that he has been played too much and that there were times when he could have been rested a bit more. However not sure over the past eight weeks there were enough that would have made a great deal of difference.I dont believe I am complaining without taking the injuries into consideration. There are quite a lot of fans who believe he has been played too much, and some who believe the amount he played earlier in the season is having a detrimental effect on his current form. I'm aware we have had issues with injuries to players in that position and i'm not exactly calling for the managers head over this situation either. I still believe by now we should have seen the Besic McCarthy pairing a bit more, who knows, it mightn't work, hopefully we get to see it against Leicester and Arsenal.
It has annoyed me at times too that a player of his age always seems to play the full 90, the game against West Brom recently being a case in point when despite being booked very early in the second half, the moment Besic was booked he was subbed.
It just worries me that the manager is going down a road our previous manager did in picking his favourite players regardless of form or fatigue, like I said though i'm not calling for his head over it although i'd be lying if I wasn't concerned. Those thinking last nights booking might help by him getting a rest will be disappointed as he will most likely play both games in europe which wouldn't offer him much of a break. Hopefully between now and the seasons finish at least two of McCarthy, Besic and Gibson can stay fit and we can judge then whether or not Roberto sees him as having to play every game as at times, to me at least, it has seemed like at various points throughout the season so far.
My mistake on the league cup, and great stats from yourself on the injury front to the players you mentioned.
