QUOTE="Dario Terracotta, post: 3354235, member: 24540"]That lazy trailing leg challenge he does has cost him so much in terms of bookings, first time I noticed him do that was for the pen at Arsenal in the FA Cup last season:([/QUOTE]
I agree the times Barryhas been booked this season - never subbed once - only time he does not complete 90mins is when he gets sent off - his legs have gone needs to be benched - Not a no 1 midfielder any more!

With the MLS it does change things. He won't stay here on the bench. Why would he when he can make more money in the MLS?

Plus at least it puts the control in our hands, if he wants to go and we don't want him to go then we don't have to let him. It also gives Barry security in case he was to get injured.

I thought it was weird at the time too but it's done now.
I think that in the summer there will be a huge clear out with some of the older ones going to the MLS. Barry may be one of them, I can't see him staying for his full contract. We just shouldn't be giving 3 year deals to 33? Year olds to begin with

i don't think the clear out will be anywhere near as big as people think. i'd want barry, pienaar and osman to stay tbh, they can still be very decent squad players. i wouldn't mind distin or alcaraz staying, but not both. all these players just need to be used sparingly rather than be sold, we don't have the funds to get rid of all these 30+ players and buy replacements.

I think there will be a clear out however I'm not sure Barry will be one of them. I think he might stay another year.

Martinez's Phil Neville.

Though I do think he has a lot to offer still and is a top player. My point is that he refuses to drop him or even rotate him, unless injuries/suspensions force his hand. Even when he's been the worst player on the pitch for multiple games in succession.

It's strange really. I understand that he offers things Besic/McCarthy don't, but individually Besic and McCarthy just seem like shoe-ins to me; Besic has been the best thing about this season and McCarthy's absence has been the biggest problem of the season. But 3 defensive midfielders and you end up being useless going forwards (see: the 0-0 derby).

Pienaar, Distin and alcaraz have to go. Age and injuries have caught up with them. Osman has been given a new contract so we're stuck with him even though the latest injury has probably finished him. Barry will still be worth his place in the squad next year but he shouldn't be first choice anymore.

fair point tbh. think he's been better this season, and can still play a role as a backup to naismith as backup to attacking mid. i'd rather keep pienaar than flog him, because i really don't see us getting a valuable amount to sell him for, regardless of getting wages off the book. lennon and atsu will go back, mirallas will quite probably leave and even mcgeady might leave. we're not going to go and buy 4 or 5 wingers in one window? would be very mad.

if galloway and browning are in bobby's mind good enough to step up and be backups right now then i'll accept alcaraz and distin going. but we still need to buy another CB regardless.

Pienaar seemed pretty homesick at times last season and he has really struggled to stay fit for 18months. Would miss his skill but unless his injuries clear up we aren't going to be able to rely on him being fit enough to be a 3rd or 4th choice winger as we don't even have much depth in the youth squad for 5th/6th choice.

In contrast a lot moan about Alcaraz's fitness but his last muscle injury was over a year ago - his dislocated shoulder was something any CB could get and at least we have quite a lot of U21 options as well as you pointed out.

sadly i can't think of any wingers that would be even close to making the step up to the first team next season. kennedy seemed the only prospect but he's now gone.

He is primarily playing as a striker for the U21s but believe Henen is comsidered a "Mirallas" type player so he might be an option. But otherwise no, McAleny seems to be better central.

Perhaps Lennon will perform and we sign him permanently, or Atsu will be reinvigorated by his AFCON success and he follows Lukaku's path? Or Del misses English wind?

*searches for straws.

still signings though, we still need to replace them in the summer, even if it is with themselves ha
