Top 5 Everton passing today (passes made/successful)

Gibson 86/81
McCarthy 69/61
Jagielka 49/46
Barkley 47/43
Eto'o 49/42

Disgusting challenge that by Gomez on Barry. Straight red and the ref whose a tosser at the best of times is 4 yards away and gives him a yellow. Let alone not to send him off for the dive. Snide little tit Gomez for doing a tackle like that

"With concerns over each of his first choice central midfielders’ fitness, Everton’s trip to the North East could be viewed as a costly one. Martinez, though, is confident his squad is strong enough to cope with such problems. “That’s why we have got a squad, and why we rotate,” he said.

Everton games so far this season: 16

Gareth Barry games so far this season: 15
James McCarthy games so far this season: 14

Yes, Roberto. It's a good job you've been doing that rotation stuff.

Are you sure you're not using statistics to attempt to substantiate an opinion, which you believe is objective, beyond someone else's?

Football is subjective. Also, simply including statistics does not make something objective, especially when they are selective in their figures.

Simply saying he had a certain pass ratio does not mean he played fantastically well, equally it doesn't mean he played poorly.

It needs to be used in context which was what I, and others, were simply trying to suggest. Not a slander against Gibson in any way.

The number of completed passes or average pass rate doesn't take into account the difficulty of the pass or poor, unforced errors.

I thought Gibson played okay today, in a way I was trying to defend you, but you certainly are living up to your username.

By the way... Everton having 58% possession, 16 shots and 7 on target compared to 42%, 10 and 3 - were we the better team?

Objective factual statements and all....

I still think they had the better chances but a draw was a fair result.

Statistics can be very misleading however I don't think either losing Barry or playing Gibson had any effect on the result. Our problems are further forward.

Good point. You could probably add Baines and Jags in there too.

The reason the rest are being rotated is because they aren't performing and Roberto is either trying to give them a kick or he simply doesn't know his first team. Chelsea play the same damn team practically every game.

What stood out aboout Gibson's passes yesterday was the distance along the ground he often hit them, and the number of forward passes into a bit of space that found feet as well. With us making ground in such a manner it meant defenders were pulled out of shape which in turn with a short lay off was proving a difficulty for the Sunderland defence to then pick up the runs into those gaps that had been orchestrated. With a load of match fitness and dear god please avoiding injury, Gibson can be our quarterback type, he has the vision and the means of executing it.

Lukaku 16 appearances, Baines, Jagielka 15 appearances.

I've not noticed any real rotation for a core of first team players.

Oviedo is still recovering from injury, Stones and now Alcaraz have injuries (along with Distin having been frozen out for some reason), Lukaku was played through injury (Eto'o wasn't fit initially, Kone has been out long term) as much of a squad as we have - we started out with what seems like barely half of it ready to go. That we managed without Barkley, through Mirallas getting injured (again) and getting some value with Hibbert covering is testament to the side pulling together and doing a job.

We still haven't had our first eleven on the pitch at the same time yet (IIRC) let alone fully fit, match sharp & in form.

Direction is important too...

Gibson: 50 forward passes from the 86 he made (45 successful)
McCarthy: 35 forward passes from the 69 he made (27 successful)
