Hilarious the injuries we've had in just over two months of the season played.

Barkley, Stones, Pienaar, Mirallas, Barry, Coleman all with minimum month-long injuries, and then Oviedo, Kone and Gibson going into the season injured and neither back fully fit and playing yet.

Actually you may have a point - the ankle is a horrendously complicated joint. A friend of mine had to have his bones fused together as it was irreparable.

Why are you wanting rotation of the team Dave?

I can understand if they are getting injuries or looking exhausted at the end of matches because we are running them into the ground. But, other than McCarthy, none of the injuries seem to be overload ones. We tired badly in our first two games but since Chelsea that doesn't seem to be the issue, we are often finishing the stronger of the two sides.

Mourinho is regarded as one of the best managers and has players like Terry who aren't kids yet he almost always plays the same team if they are healthy. Isn't a settled team in general meant to help build up understanding among the players?

I mention rotation because Martinez has...and it doesn't stack up with the two players recently injured as they've been the two who've featured most. Both of them have been injured recently and now have the same injury they were brought off for originally.

I think playing your strongest XI is the right thing to do, all things being equal. But if someone has taken a knock/tweaked a muscle (especially in this central midfield department where we're so strong, depth wise) then it makes little sense not resting them up and giving them an extra game out and to turn to that cover.

Agree with McCarthy although given the two tough Ireland games coming up wonder if we would have just rested him for Sunderland only for him to get injured playing for them. Disagree on Barry as think it was Gomez and his studs that did the damage, not playing with a knock - are you sure it is even the same ankle?

Resting both McCarthy and Barry for Sunderland, which if I undersand correctly you are suggesting, would have been a very big call. Fair do's if you would have made it, given the importance of getting points I wouldn't.

@Prevenger17 is standing by with a wreath.

The Prevenge signal!! Did somebody call for a photoshop?

I feel quite confident barry will be back very soon after the international break. The reason being, he was limping heavily on his right foot on Thursday when he left the field. On sunday his right lower leg was in a support for a precaution. I am taking a wild guess he was patched up for Sunday's game and got a massive clump on the same spot. which at the time would be unbelievably painful . I have played with a badly smashed ankle from the week before and was doing fine until I got hit on it. the pain is incredible, but the crazy thing is after 2 or 3 days I was able to jog on it again.
sending positive vibes to Gareth here

Barry led with his right foot into that challenge against Lille and he came off with his right foot injured yesterday. It was obviously a pretty tender area, because that challenge looked innocuous from Gomez. He just stood on his shin where an existing injury was and inflamed it, imo.

I'm not suggesting he should have rested both for that particular game, but given the three games in a week we had, one or both of them could have been rested against Lille.
