Actually you may have a point - the ankle is a horrendously complicated joint. A friend of mine had to have his bones fused together as it was irreparable.

If you're talking knee ligaments then I think you're right. Ankle ligaments must heal quicker.
he'll still be back before koneBreaking news: Everton midfielder Gateth Barry is to have his right leg amputated after a heavy challenge at The Stadium of Light. On Monday he is scheduled to have the operation, where its expected the amputation will be just below the knee. Everton are unsure how long the midfielder will be sidelined for.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez ' Gareth suffered a heavy challenge today and the early indications are that he will lose his leg. My thoughts are with Gareth and his family at this time '. When asked the length of recovery, he added..
' Amputations are tricky, he will have the operation on Monday, we run the risk of infection also but we will wait 2 or 3 weeks for the swelling on his stump to go down before he is sized up for a prosthetic leg. Its hard to say the length of time he will be out for ''.
Its understood that it will be something similar to what disgraced runner oscar pistorius wears. Meanwhile Everton have a plan B and they are contemplating whether to accept leg donations in a bid to save his season. Contact Barryoneleg@stutteringeverton.com for more info.
@streeky said he was limping on his right foot from Lille which matches with what you are saying.Barry led with his right foot into that challenge against Lille and he came off with his right foot injured yesterday. It was obviously a pretty tender area, because that challenge looked innocuous from Gomez. He just stood on his shin where an existing injury was and inflamed it, imo.
I'm not suggesting he should have rested both for that particular game, but given the three games in a week we had, one or both of them could have been rested against Lille.

In hindsight resting McCarthy for Lille and Barry for Sunderland would have been best. But I wasn't as confident of a win against Lille as you seem to have been so was happy to see them both start as wasn't aware of any specific injury concerns at that time apart from their regular game time.
Am not sure even a physio can anticpate that well Dave - Lukaku, like Barry, played with a bad knock for several games and didn't get it aggravated in the same area. Perhaps given the postion Barry plays in it was more of a gamble but managers often do it and sometimes it just goes pear shaped.I'm going over an old point here, but (while I understand and support the view about sticking with your preferred starters) CM is a position we're blessed with a lot of cover in. It is hindsight, I accept. Buy Martinez (surely as a physio) could anticipate two recently injured starters in that position might individually need to sit out a game or two, even if they could pass a fitness test. In another position of the team then it'd be hard to make that charge, but it happens to be in our position of strength in depth.
It didn't look innocuous to me and I don't know why Gomez wasn't sent off. It actually looked worse seeing it again.Barry led with his right foot into that challenge against Lille and he came off with his right foot injured yesterday. It looked badly timed, not malicious (I cant remember Gomez having any reputation at all for that sort of challenge), and produced a bad injury because it was right on the same area he'd carried bad bruising from the Lille game.It didn't look innocuous to me and I don't know why Gomez wasn't sent off. It actually looked worse seeing it again.
So will the Ice Age.he'll still be back before kone

Bit far fetched I think.Could he have been anticipating Barry picking up a yellow and a game ban anyway and trying to smite two birds with one stone? Granted that is some pretty far out reasoning.

Seems a bit elaborate. Why would you go those lengths to have him subbed and stretchered off after a few minutes (using a sub up in the process) when Martinez could have just kept him out of the game altogether and rolled through the international period. He is on 4 yellows though isn't he? rolling a game ban into the international break would have meant 3 weeks off? Nice little rest before a christmas period that is more manic than a...a...I can't think of anything pc enough to type up.
