Gareth Barry

Gareth Barry is continuing to be assessed after being carried off on a stretcher at Sunderland on Sunday.

The Blues midfielder was taken straight to hospital in the north east where subsequent x-rays thankfully showed that there was no break.

His ankle is still very swollen, which complicates assessment, but the Everton medical staff have confirmed that there is ligament damage in the area.

The player’s treatment at Finch Farm is ongoing and although it is too early to estimate a length of absence, it is hopeful the time out will be weeks rather than months.

Any update on him?
He's got ankle aids mate.
Due back next season apparently.

Oh OK, Martinez says "he's recovering very well"

I think we'll see him back early December, but this is mainly based on the damp seaweed hanging from our ceiling rather than any medical knowledge. John Aldridge was on Five 5 earlier this evening and said he thought Barry was one of the dirtiest players in the Premiership and hoped he'd never play again. Still, Aldo though, wtf does he know ;)

wasn't that his 3rd game in 9 days as well? martinez needs to manage him better
Becuase of the knock he hadn't played the full game against Lille and he did have the internstional break coming up to rest in.

But since we don't have internationals until March once Barry is back he'll need to be rested at times or he'll end up as exhausted as he did towards the end of last season.

Defintely.

It was such a shame about the injury because he was back to his best after a dodgy start however if we're goin to have a chance in the EL we will need his experience in the knockout stages.
