I was in awe when he played against Chelsea at home last season, was thinking what a shrewd signing this is. However, the one thing that annoys me about Barry is the amount of needless yellow cards he gets. Think at the most we should offer a 2 year deal, then let him play a year abroad for his final pay cheque.

Not sure about needless fouls, but there were a few times last season where he made calculated last ditch spoiling 'tackles' because he'd been beaten for pace.

I suppose it's rather academic now mate, but I was trying to convey that even if we stumped up the 2mil (or whatever) for City, Barry and his agent would possibly be less inclined to do that deal as they would get less of a cut themselves.
Yep, fair point.

Can a line be drawn under this please?

I'm wondering whether this clause only applies to the summer 2014 transfer window - so if we waited until September 2nd, signed him as a free agent after the transfer window expires, then the clause wouldn't count?

Could be a sneaky way around it - give Barry £1m extra signing on fee, pocket the rest.

I think it is probably the equivalent of refunding to City the wages paid by them to Barry during his loan spell with us last season.
If it finished when his loan expired we owe nothing,
if we sign him on a permanent deal they want their contribution to his wages back. Last August we probably had a choice, accept this or Barry goes elsewhere. In light of the season he had it was a good decision.

You could be on to something, but more likely its a 6 or 12 month period.
