Apparently we're really fighting out this £2m clause, which is why it's taking so long.

Everton believe the clause is null and void.
Negotiations at advanced stage with lawyers. I still expect Barry to sign; I believe he has already agreed terms and is awaiting the green light as is Bobby.

Well at least that will end the Rodwell rumours as City would tell us to do one!

Not necessarily, they need as much money to come in as possible so they look closer to balancing the books. Might seem like buttons compared to the amount they spend on players but it all adds up. Probably the reason they're fighting for this 2 mil over Barry too. If this info is correct like. In reality it's spare change to them but having been slapped on the wrist this season I'm sure they're keen for things to start to look a little clearer.

It does seem a really bizarre state of affairs.

He could sign for, say, Tranmere on a free. Then they could immediately release him, and he could sign for us on a free and we wouldn't have to give City any money. Because he wouldn't be going directly to us from City.

I'm sure another team did this with a player a few years back, but I can't quite remember the teams or player involved. I know there was a dispute and the buying club used another club to get around the selling club's restrictions.
