Gay footballers about to come out

Don't know about American sports to be honest mate.
Rugby and cricket have had a few folk come out though.

To be serious, I'd presume the worry for someone is the crowd's reaction. There was some lad playing in the lower leagues who came out five or six years ago and I seem to remember he got dogs abuse from , presumably, opposition supporters.

The thread"s not the problem, it's the posters, most of whom can't post in here any more so who knows, the people left might be able to have a sensible conversation.

Yeah thats surely the main worry, the abuse they may get.

I'd like to think that the vast majority of football fans (and people in general) are not homophobic, so therefor it's easy to say it won't be an issue except to a small minority of neanderthal idiots.

Problem is, with the tribalistic nature of football and almost peer pressure when they see others doing it that casual homophobic banter (for want of a better term) would be quite widespread.

Hopefully you know what i mean. It wouldn't be full on hatred of a player for being gay, more piss taking and wind ups to a player of a rival team using the easy target of their homosexuality.
