Gay footballers about to come out

It won't be Barkley the little [Poor language removed] :D

He could be for all we know, it's great that most people don't have a problem with homosexuality nowadays but people really need to stop trying to judge who might be gay on the basis of some kind of stereotype, I guarantee you've met a lot more LGBTQ people in your life than you think because the vast majority aren't camp or effeminate, they don't have the "gay lisp", they're just your average person walking through the streets. The fact that you only think about whether someone's gay or not when they match the old stereotype is a major confirmation bias. I know a whole load of non-hetero guys and gals and only a very small percentage fit the effeminate gay/butch lesbian trope.

And whilst we're at it if people could stop assuming that bisexuals are either .... (deep breath) greedy promiscuous sluts, just going through a phase, straight people trying to be the centre of attention or just pretending to be bi because they don't want to say they're gay yet, thanks Tom Daly,... (and yes people really do believe those stereotypes, I've had all of them thrown at me at several points in the past few years) that would be nice.

I'm pretty hopeful that the reception to these players "coming out" will be positive for the most part, even people on the Daily Mail don't seem to give a [Poor language removed] if they're gay or not :dance:Hopefully in 10 years time signing a non-hetero player will be as significant as signing a black player is now and we can all move on.

Why do they have to come out? It's just sex, ffs. Might as well start doing interviews every time the next big star pops his cherry.

I'm not saying they should hide it from family and friends, but why drag it into the media?

Because if they want to do what any heterosexual gets to do and not sneak around covering their relationships up the media will drag it out of them either way, better to rip the plaster off in one swift motion and move on with their lives, hopefully giving others the confidence to come out the closet too, than getting hounded by gossip columnists until they do the exact same thing under more strained circumstances.

He certainly has a queer face going by the original meaning!

Maybe that was his first time being a taker when the photo was taken ;)

Mate, people still get beaten up and murdered for being gay. They face losing family and friends for coming out in many cases still. People make music openly calling for their murder.

To say homosexuals don't face bigotry is one of the daftest things I've read on GOT.

And this.

Tbh and this is just how i feel; people saying 'nowt' do with me really shouldn't bother posting, just indivualisitc self-rewarding and those thinking gay football support groups is too much? christ almighty

If they want to set up their own support group then fine, but I personally think that defining yourself by your sexuality is counter productive if you're trying to remove this particular issue from football.

To use a similar analogy, it drives me mad seeing women going on about equality but then having all manner of award ceremonies just for women. Equality comes through removing such categorizations, not creating them.

For a potential homosexual he was going with a lot of girls last year. That's what I was joking about not how I would propose a gay guy should look/act like.

Would you have stopped black people congregating together as well then? Wow.
