Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Exactly. As I said I think he'll make more of himself away from Barca as he won't see much of the ball. He's not going to get acres of space as you seem to agree with by saying you face parked buses.

I think for him to make a name for himself as one of the best in the world it'll be away from Barca. Atletico Madrid would be ideal for him

He'll see plenty of the ball and unlike some of our current wingers, Deulofeu won't shy away from beating his marker...He's gotten acres of space mostly in the Premiership because in Spain, he rarely is given much space for fear of what he will do...And because that's what Barcelona will mostly face, better for the club & player to play in a similar setup rather than the acres of space...Everyone already knows what he can do in space

Don't let @FCBarça arrogance put you off Deulofeu, he was superb up until his injury, I for one would like him to play for his next season. Can't begrudge the lad (Deulofeu) for saying he wants to play for FCB considering that's the club he loves.

Only a blind fool would think it better for a fast tricky winger to have less space!

The way through a parked bus isn't trying to skin a full back, it's about playing through them with precise passing and vision. Something he showed nothing of at Everton. He only looked a real player when running into space and using his pace.

Trouble was when ever he got there his decision making and passing where so poor nothing rarely came from it. He needs to take a long hard look at himself and see why this loan hasn't been the success everyone hoped it would be.

At the beginning when he arrived there was a lot of excitement surrounding him, much like Barkley. Both young players suffered from injuries at crucial times and as a result both suffered inconsistencies in form. But one of them showed a hunger and desire to improve and work hard, he's off to the World Cup and looks an absolute star in the making. The others off back to his parent club and more than likely another season out on loan where his interest will likely drop as he realises he's not the star man in the team.

If Deulfeou is going to fulfill his potential he'll need to change his attitude and improve his work rate immensely, if he doesn't he'll end up yet another wasted talent that could have been.

Totally agree.

The lad believes his own hype too much. He didn't get to the stage where it was tough for Martinez to leave him on the bench. He was erratic and never overcame his self absorbed style of play. You always got the impression that he felt it was all about him.

Only a blind fool would think wingers at Barcelona get to operate much in acres of space

he has struggled against most premiership full backs tho..hence he hasnt played much, martinez has judged correctly how much to play him, im sure barcas coaching staff will see the same

When you claim he's a one trick pony then yes, that isn't an informed opinion much less someone who claims to have followed the club for 2 decades...What is that one trick, incidentally?

My apologies, I incorrectly thought you were calling Cuenca Ibi for some reason. Afellay I actually like. I´d be interested in seeing Bobby get him back to his best. Very clever player who has a few strings to his bow.

You are taking the term one-trick-pony too literally. Not surprisingly. as it makes it easier to put your point back. The point you still havent actually made yet really. You have advised me twice I am uninformed despite me advising you I have seen his every game, and then also kindly provided a highlights video. A highlights video doesn´t change the fact Cuencas a winger who most often try hits the line and crosses or cuts back. He obviously tries other things, they just dont often come off as for me he is a bit limited in his skill and inconsistent in his execution. I wanted him to come good, as you do with any young player at your club, but I´m amazed if you saw anything in him or Tello to say they are good enough for Barça, and I personally don´t think they are good enough for regular playing time at Everton. Certainly not when there would be better options out there that wouldn´t have the inflated value just because they are Barça players.

You could actually, you know, talk about the football you see. It can be quite simple, rather than dismissing other people.

I don't. That's why I said I think he'll make his name away from Barca. You remember that, on the last page??? You disagreed with it.

How surreal. Glad we ended up agreeing though!

You'll have to point out where I agreed he will have to make his name away from the club...I simply pointed out that at Barcelona, he won't get acres of space, which is something he has not had throughout most of his youth career at the club...Yet he has thrived so which is it?...He needs space or needs to leave Barcelona to succeed?

he has struggled against most premiership full backs tho..hence he hasnt played much, martinez has judged correctly how much to play him, im sure barcas coaching staff will see the same

He struggled against one FB from the matches I saw and I watched everytime he played this season and the times he switched to the other flank against the very hyped Shaw, he showed his quality

He's been at the club for more than a decade, I'm sure the coaching staff know his strengths & weaknesses quite well which is also reflected in his very secure contract with hefty buyout

Backtracking now?...In what context is one trick pony meant to imply anything but one dimensional?...And the highlights alone showed how versatile his game is

If you watch Barcelona as much as you profess, then you know full well that attacking players at Barcelona are asked to play ascross the line - they interchange all the time so how could they be one dimensional if they are versatile enough to move around on the pitch?...Cuenca is a player I really love although I fear his days are numbered at the club, again the fallout of untimely injuries...But he has a very well rounded game, he can pass, shoot, dribble, press and link up in attacks...I mean the only credible weakness I could even think of with him is that he isn't blessed with blazing pace like say Deulofeu or Tello yet he hasn't been hampered by it

At the very least, he is absolutely not limited in terms of skill as you're now suggesting

You could actually, you know, talk about the football you see. It can be quite simple, rather than dismissing other people.

I have and you might want to take some of that advice yourself based on what you've commented on

Lots of repressed sexual tension in this thread.
Try to keep it civil lads.

Anyway, Deulofeu, I'm sorry he's going back. He's still very raw but gave us an extra option. I'm not convinced his long term future lies with Barcelona, but I wish the lad well. There were tears in his eyes at half-time at Hull. Barca is his first and true love, but he'll miss us a bit too.
