Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Pienaar was originally a central midfielder. The problem with a natural wide player on the left is that it nullifies Baines threat. Baines links better with someone who comes infield and gives him the overlap and space out wide to exploit.

Obviously it doesn't always work as we've seen with Barkley and Naismith frustratingly played there last season. Suppose we will have to see if Cleverley is played there and if he builds up that understanding with Baines.
So what you are saying is we need to sign a right footed arjen robben

That he was merely going above himself for the time he was here to get a contract and that if he pens a 5 year deal might well be arse.

I don't think he did btw
Well, I dont know if I did say that, but it's a reasonable attitude to have with any player turning up on a loan deal at this stage of his career.

I do know I was positive about his arrival all told though.

Del strikes the fear into teams. Same as Rom.

Teams set up to stop them.

They will be unpredictable. They will occasionally [Poor language removed] up. They will win us games on there own.

Get used to it. We no longer have a team of 6 7 out of 10s all the time.

He is at the moment an impact player, he will get 35 mins in games and start the odd one. He needs to learn the team approach to the game and cover the defensive part of his game. He has something special, but so did the likes of Ben Arfa etc who could never bring all round balance to their game. If I was Del I would look at someone like Sanchez as a model.

Lennon is essential, we were caught last year when teams cottoned on to the fact of if you press us high up nullify, Coleman and Baines and Squeeze the midfild you break us down in the firt phase. Lemons pace, work rate and willingness was the counter, with pace to break teams couldn't press high, thus we could play in more space and get out of our own half. That said I thought he played very as well and was a better effective threat then I thought he would be.

Cleverly I think is there because of his adaptability, he can play so many positions. centre, behind the striker and left right flank. I think we will see him in many positions rather then a static one, even during games. I think he's tempted by three at the back, wing backs, three in the centre and three up front he played it at Wigan at times and I think it's interesting he blooded Galloway on the left side. It's hard to know but I think Cleverley is a bit of a key to overall flexibility within systems.
Yeah, good point about Lennon. I was surprised at how far back he was playing at times for us, and the way Martinez deployed him inside a lot during games. He's very versatile, as you've pointed out.

I think one thing Moyes did well while he was here was to get hold of a lot of utility players, and Martinez might be headed down the same road (necessity at this club anyway). Cleverley is a type I think we'll see more of. The more I think about it the less Deulofeu makes sense in that respect and that this is a bargaining chip with Spurs over the signature of Lennon.

Was thinking the same. A lot of stories coming out of Spain now are saying Barca have put a 20 million euro price on him.

Now who knows whether those reports are accurate either, but lets be honest 20 million euro (14.5 million quid) seems much more realistic than the Mail's 3 million!

Like you Dave I'm not convinced we'll spend that sort of money on him when we need a centre back and playmaker. In fact I think it's more likely we'll return for Lennon and try and get them down to the 5 million or so mark.
We'll get both Del and Lennon

I'd be happy with that mate. Lennon for a decent fee that's good business for us and he will provide balance and Del who will provide the unpredictability we've been missing last season.

Damn well hope not or I'm joining the plotters.

Del and Lennon together would provide excellent and different options as long as McGeady was moved out. But Lennon and McGeady as our right sided wingers would be great for defensive workrate but hardly going to make defenders nervous.

Really ? If you're two wingers are Gerri and Lennon, full backs have to sit further back because of their pace. Yes their final back is lacking at times but you can't take either of them lightly.
