Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

As he grows in confidence, he'll drag a load of defenders with him. Yea, 4 times out of 5 he'll run it out or get dispossessed but there's that 1 in 5 chance he might find Lukaku or Mirallas in space because all the defenders have been dragged out of position. He knows the English game, he'll know most of his teammates, he'll know what to expect. I think it's an important move for him as well as for the likes of Barkley and Lukaku.

Like he did 12 months ago when he was here...

Spanish McGeady.

Lots of potential *roll eyes* but a hell of a lot more frustration. I will look forward to him taking on 3 players and running into the advertising boards. Boooooooooooooooooooooooo

That was when Pienaar was fit and one of our best players, and he was never going to start ahead of Mirallas.

Who would start ahead of him now apart from Mirallas?

What was the excuse last season. As things stand currently, he has been given chances at 3 top european clubs; Barcelona, Everton and Sevilla. He's had plenty of chances to shine.
He played regularly for us and we score 70 odd points.
Barcelona have 3 of the best forwards in world football.
Sevilla won the Europa league and the player who kept him out was then bought by Barcelona.

That was his first two seasons yet has still scored 7 goals and registered over 10 assists in those limited minutes plus he's only 21.

Just another McGeady. Look everyone accepts he's not the finished article so you don't need to be contrary on the chance you will be proved right later. We all accept its not a sure thing. But at this stage it's exciting so just enjoy it. We don't get too many of these kinds of transfers.

Potential though lads, potential.

Cadamarteri, Baxter, Rodwell, Gosling, Grant, Jeffers, Chadwick, Vaughn...

None of them can be comparable imo apart from perhaps jeffers and rodwell, and both of those made big moves and money ruint them ... at other clubs.
Edit # title winning clubs too.

well said mate.

After the 2004/2005 season we had just finished 4th. Many of us hoped for some new exciting players to push us on and get us past the champions league qualifying rounds. A winger/creative player was up there as many people's number one priority.

We signed Simon Davies for 3.5m.

10 years later we're on the brink of signing a wonderkid from Barcelona for a reported 3m. Half a million less than what we paid for the Welsh maestro. Deulofeu scored 4 goals in his one season at Everton. Davies scored 1 in two seasons.

People are complaining.

They're comparable in the fact you were probably staining your pants over their potential too.

It doesn't matter anyway. As soon as he does show a glimmer of being somewhat decent, he'll be wrapped up nicely and boxed off back to Barca.

I very rarely get exited by our signings. Most you know are average before they've kicked a ball. I've seen enough from this kid though to think he will be top, top quality if he fulfills his potential. Personally I can't quite believe our luck.

And it is that 1 in 5 that creates a chance, and maybe a goal, against teams that park the bus at Goodison. Signing him is a no brainer really. We need someone that can do things out of the ordinary. Reminds me of the debates about Duncan Mackenzie wasteful/luxury player or wow how did he do that/unplayable at times.
