Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

I for one am pleased at the return of the Spanish lad.

Much needed pace and attacking style we seemed to lack this season. I'd genuinely like him and Lennon. Didn't think I'd say that in January to be honest.
I would like to apologise groucho....I dont ever mean to offend..... i just find a sound bite...lets be honest here, thats all it is. "Once a blue" is in itself offensive if its not meant. It certainly wasnt the first time it was scrawled on a shirt. Notice I didnt post in the other gerri thread. I like the lad and sincerely hope he does his utmost best. I simply dont get the adulation because he uses a tacky line. Would much prefer he does his talking on the pitch......becoming a pattern with me with all our most recent players.

Of course it's a sound bite, and false people do my head in also, but I look at it this way; he didn't have to do that, and he did genuinely engage with fans while he was here, after he'd left and looks to be doing the same again.

I'd say the lad's being genuine, and if not, he's at least trying.

Exactly.

Its one step away from "I've supported liverpool since i was a boy cause they're the greatest team in the world".

Just a flashy soundbite to make the fans like you more.

And one we've heard before, which got broken in spectactular style from someone who it would actually have meant something to, as opposed to some random Spanish kid who is just doing a job.

Sure, he might have affection for the club and its staff. But file "Once a blue always a blue" in the bin with badge kissing.

He's a very welcome signing and at a great price but this seems to have snowballed into some fans expecting him to be the next Messi.

Expectations have been built up to the point that if he doesn't deliver it will be a massive letdown for them.

Don't expect too much and then be really happy if he does deliver would be the way I'd approach this. Then if it doesn't work, you won't feel too let down.

The 'once a blue....' stuff should have been consigned to the garbage can after the way the last player who said that subsequently acted. And he actually was once a real Blue.

Why does bizz still appear like a bad smell despite being on my ignored list?

It because, the, err, I don't know.

Try removing and adding said users on your list that you're trying to ignore. It may refresh the list.

I missed the joke didn't I?

All fair points raised Groucho. I had a long grumpy reply ready.....tbh tho as others have said...I have already said too much. A new signing should be an exciting time and I appeared to rain on it. My appologies to all who were offended at me being disingenuous over a "tweet".

He's defo genuine mate.

I've said this before, but in his last game for us at Hull you could see the raw emotion in him when the players came over to us. Now I'm not naive enough to think that's just down to his relationship with the fans, it's as much to do with Martinez and the rest of the squad than the club as a whole, but there was a definite fit there.

I'm happy to admit that, looking at him that day, I thought that was someone saying goodbye forever, and I never thought I'd see him in Royal Blue again, but I'm made up that, even with all his undoubted faults, he's coming back. If those faults had been ironed out more in the last 12 months then we'd have had no chance of getting him back. If Martinez can inspire some confidence in him and we see a goodly percentage of the undoubted talent he's got, then we've made an amazing signing. If it doesn't work out, it won't have cost us a fortune.

Absolutely, I think he was being genuine.

Let's be frank about this: it's because of his understanding with Martinez that he's come back, which is a positive thing. He obviously feels that he is the coach who can improve him as a player. Let's hope he does.

I'd prefer to wait a season or two before declaring that he has an unbreakable bond with the club though.

Oh, very true, the days of unbreakable bonds are pretty much gone. If we help him fulfil his potential and he ends up moving on, or even back to Barcelona, then we should all be happy.

If not, then we've invested a bit of time and money in something which didn't quite work out, which wouldn't be the end of the world.
