What are the Kopites saying by the way?

Are they crowing about how he's too good a player for us or are they talking like they're going to poach him from us?

They're criticising his diving (the irony is astounding) and trying to claim he's not all that. He clearly has more potential than most of their squad put together, though whether he can match it is another thing.

As a note, I would like him to cut the diving out, in fairness.

Was surprised he never played for England to be honest
Remember people talking about that possibility - don't know if it was ever properly being considered but would have been great to see. Arteta some player in his prime before his injury.

Although he was behind some massive talents in that Spanish midfield - he prob still would have been behind some tiny talents playing for England. That was around the time Maclaren was in charge - let's pick Gerrard, the past 50 awful performances were probably just bad luck.

This is my biggest fear about our prospects of keeping hold of Del for more than this season and next.

At some stage, sooner rather than later, he will probably feel the need to be playing in La Liga in order to cement a place in the international squad.
He earned a senior call up in May of 2014 as he'd done so well with us, was only for a friendly but still was an indication he'd been watched closely at Everton, there was even talk that (like Stones) any injuries would have seen him go to the World Cup.

Several of the Spain squad play in the league now so don't think it the barrier to inclusion it once might have been and his U21 work will go a long way to showing that he can still adapt to any perceived "Spanish" style.

And to think that Luis Enrique thought his development had regressed during his first spell at Everton

I think the major factor in his impressive form since getting back to fitness is he's used to the physicality of the English game.

Now, i'm not referring to the diving, as there is no set 'type' of player that dives.

But, in terms of the tempo of the games and the physicality in general, it's obvious that the year Del had really prepared him and we're now seeing the fruits of that. Fingers crossed he can keep up this form/assist tally, because if he does could well see Lukaku having hit 20 by Jan/Feb.

Possibly this post best belongs in the Martinez thread, but why, given we have all these potential media gushing players, are we only mid table?. I genuinely believe, like you, we have four players on the pitch, (Stones Barkley Rom and Del) who are genuine top,top class talent...shouldn't Everton be higher positioned??
I think his comment is aimed more at kopite insanity than the strength of our squad

Maybe a place or two, but that was a rough old fixture list for any team. We can gauge our progress more accurately in January, I reckon.

All of our 'best' players are nowhere near at their peak, and it's a shame we'll have none of them when they eventually do reach their peak.

Deulofeu, if he keeps up improving, will be back at Barca or for a Champions League team.

Lukaku has one or two more years no doubt.

Stones already wanted to leave and, especially if Kenwright stays in charge, will be sold to cover loans and future transfer budgets.

Barkley, he may or may not stay for a long time.

In 3/4 years, if we have all four of them, plus improve on what's around them, we could be a force to be reckoned with. Doubt we'll see it, though.

Ultimately I feel the same. We have the potential but it requires patience from us and also the players. I doubt we'll see it also.

On top of the talent Barca already have, Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal will be joining their squad in January and both can play in Deulofeu's position plus they are rumoured to be buying Nolito. Geri moved for game time as he was miserable sat on the bench, until he has a better chance of that at Barca very much doubt he'll want to move back even if they wanted to trigger his buyback clause.

He needs a coach who trusts him and isn't obsessed with his defensive workrate and Roberto was a huge reason for his return which is something those who want Martinez out should perhaps factor into their thoughts.

Sadly you are probably correct, but just spend 5 minutes imagining they play 300+ games together.

Dont think any of them are right wingers...

Mata can, and certainly Isco. But Spain don't play with right wingers do they?

Basically he's got no chance right now with the players they've got. Needs to do what he's doing now for now a good two years consistently.

I thought later it was established that those quotes were made up (could be wrong though)...

Actually, just thinking about it having Barkley playing tonight + Pique selecting Stones in his "World 11" and with Deulofeu being Spanish U21 Captain of course surely means we, as a club are getting a fair bit of notice over in Spain.

Not to mention Martinez being Spanish...could all help us to bring over one or two Spanish players.
