Gerard Deulofeu

I interpret the buy-back clause to mean that at end of season 1 or 2 Barca have the right to take back Deulofeu at the agreed price. At the expiration of that 2 year option, Barca merely retain right of first refusal (but at a price determined by EFC). Pretty sure three parties have committed to the arrangement (ie the player and the two clubs), therefore, for the next two seasons, isn't talk of what Deulofeu wants and Everton wants all rather moot?

The player would only opt for the move if he felt it was in his best interests. Barca's buy back option means jack if he says he doesn't fancy going back to warm their bench.

Yeah I was just ignoring that and hoping it was because they liked us. So does this run out at a particular point?
the buy back option can be exercised at the end of either season 1 or season 2 (at Barca's option)...after that it's open market rules (excepting Barca retain first right of refusal)

I honestly believe that having this player was a primary reason we finished 5th 2 years ago.
In fact I'd go so far as to say had we had had him last season we would have finished 5th again.
He just keeps us on the front foot and cuts out the pedestrian style of play we were cursed by last season.
He feeds Lukaku who needs the service.

He's basically a 25m player who came to us for 4 million because he loved the club.

He's the best player we have.

I'm pretty sure our win ratio was better when he was either out the team or injured in his first spell with us.

Exactly. It takes two to tango with a buyback clause. Club has to want the player back, player has to want to go back.
...you'd think Deulofeu would be anything but reluctant to return to his boyhood club (which is also a top of the football food chain outfit). But, as others have pointed out, it's best to not get knickers in a knot over future maybes and perhaps'. Just enjoy the present

It all depends on who's there. I would put money on 'I'm not going back to sit on the bench' and even if he keeps up this form he's not good enough to push the others out yet.

yes, there are many variables that affect these things. As, I said, let's just enjoy having him as the Everton player he currently is.

problem is if gerry was a stick of rock he would have barca running right through him. It was great to get him back here ,but i see it as a glorified loan deal because some people at the top (not the manager) still love gerry and will get him back if shows a bit of form.

Jerry is fantastic, our best signing of the summer, but I cannot see him get better or even close to the level of Messi, Neymar or Suarez anytime soon.
