Total coincidence, but I was in a meeting today at work. A lot of meetings in Australia start with acknowledgement of country which basically recognises that aboriginal people are the traditional owners of the land. Quite often, and was the case today, this will be followed by a minutes silence for all those who died back in the colonial days.

No doubt some of those would have been rapists, murderers, thieves etc, but I stayed silent for a minute. Because it is polite, and respectfull to all others in the meeting.

It's really not that hard.
Wowsers "rapists, murderers, thieves"!

We've surely jumped the shark now mods, can we lock the thread or move it to the Ale House, please?

to illustrate that whether you respect people or not, it's still not hard to respect those around you.

Probably not the best example in hindsight
The bit in bold is quite some going. The underlined, yes, 'probably'.

Got quite murky in this thread eventually, so many different spins and additions, the laughs dried up double-quick, and now somehow after our first win of the season we've blue on blue, (which isn't as sexy as it sounds). There's an old saying about respect being earned, and only fools mistaking being feared for being respected. Like everything now older values and ideals have been shattered and splintered elements pick up pieces of what they can use and ignore what they dont like.

Twas ever thus.

Once again a small minority of moronic thugs have dragged our great club’s illustrious name through the mud.

I’m not a Royalist, but the Queen was a 96-year-old woman who served this country as a mechanic during the war and then as Head of State for over seventy years. By all means disrespect Truss or Starmer or Davey, but why her on the eve of her funeral?

This has made us look terrible nationally.

As an aside, she was the head of the Armed Forces so it was seen by many as a direct attack on our brave forces veterans.
...right on cue.

lol

Yeah mate, and she fiddled my Grandad by claiming she put a new dizzy-cap on his Wolsey when she only changed the spark-plugs.
She wasn`t 96 at the time either so don`t go making that excuse.

Yes think I would be letting myself down by shouting out at a mark of respect when 36,000 other fans kept their thoughts to themselves.
Or, you you could be proud that you made a statement for freedom from fascism, while 36000 other fans wondered what the hell was going on and why they were all quiet because not many people want a monarchy and it's only that the royalists are so violent and so good at brainwashing most are scared to speak out against them.
