What does "never headline Glastonbury" even mean? There is no rule for it. Its basically a TV event these days that caters to the masses.

200k last night would disagree and pretty much everyone on this thread disagrees as well.

I like Elton John's stuff. And McCartney's for that matter.

But FFS they have to be handing these slots out on the Pyramid stage 9-11 Sat/Sun to groups / individuals who can sing their back catalogue with a bit more clarity and gusto than they managed.

As I said, it's sentimental old guff fuelled by the media desperate to sell a spectacle that makes their efforts on the night a 'spectacular success'.

Take a look at Guns and Roses to understand what I mean. That was a calamity. Elton and Macca this year and last got through it with a big effort from the crowd, but it's exhausting watching it.

Springsteen a few years back was the last time I saw a 'vintage' act on a Saturday night smash that slot.

Because they all will it to be a communion. The will is there to reach out and embrace these old headline acts. That's a whole different matter to the quality of what they knock out now though.

Personally...and I've never been an uber fan of theirs...I thought the best 'old time' act on Glastonbury this year were the Manic Street Preachers. 'kin ell, there's some bangers in that set of theirs that would be electric on the Pyramid Stage 9-11 Saturday or Sunday night.

I will agree with that - their placing on the bill was really weird to me

Yeah GNR have been a mess for years.

I dont understand your mindset (or people with similar ones).

Its an event with multiple stages and multiple acts. If the Elton John part is exhausting for you then you could watch QOTSA or something instead with an equally massive crowd. Thats the whole point of it. It doesnt matter if you liked it or not, loads did and they had other things on for people who it didnt cater to (like myself).

It's changed from what it was in the past (for the worst in my opinion, but again that doesn't matter) and it aint going back to what it was. The vintage acts are the big TV finale.

The Spice Girls or Steps or someone equally tragic will headline one day, but it will be OK because there will be someone boss on the other stages at the same time who we can watch instead.
